Yea. A 2* player (rivals) that everyone will claim is a stud and will be a great pick-up. I am getting worried that we have offered too many of these middle of the road guys when we were panicing that we were going to have trouble recruiting. I hope we will have enough schollys if we start to land some of these big name guys we are going after.

Also, we have a recruiting sub-forum for this stuff.

He did not participate in combines and that is most of the reason he has a low ranking. Talk to coaches that play against him and they will tell you he has plenty of potential. Not a wasted scholly. Tell me, how many 6'4 255 pound guys do you know that can run a 4.7 and has a frame that will quickly put on 20-30 pounds? Does that mean is is Marvin Austin? No. But he is a great athlete that has potential to develop. That is why we took him. You can never have too many people that are his size and can run like him.

Not to mention, the people on here complain about our recruiting lagging behind teams like Auburn, LSU, Florida, etc. Well, Hall might be decent seeing as to how he was offered by most of the SEC and chose UTK over Auburn. So, its a recruiting victory against one of the schools that we are lagging behind in recruiting. He was good enough for Auburn to offer. Thats not bad.

The kid's a player, very nice pick-up. Once again the dreaded star rating rears its ugly head.

Yep. Let's review:

1. LSU 10 **** commits
2. Florida - 1 ***** commit, 8 **** commits
3. Georgia - 8 **** commits
4t. Bama - 6 **** commits
4t. Auburn - 6 **** commits
6. Ole Miss - 5 **** commits
7. SC - 4 **** commits
8. Miss St - 3 **** commits
9. Arky - 2 **** commits
10t. Tennessee - 1 **** commit
10t. Vandy - 1 **** commit
12. Kentucky - zero

and yes, I realize that I am not counting prep school guys (I even left out JUCO to even it out). My reason is that the schools already got credit for those guys in last year's class rankings.

read on another board that Hall is not a commitment. UT is going to help him get JUCO. Brent Hubbs cited as source.

If it was to end up like this on Signing day, then we would have a problem.Since this is only Nov,I think this list means absolutely nothing.

I don't even want to think about signing day right now. I think that most of the better SEC/national recruiters are going to spin the Vols under the table with some "dirty" recruiting by accrediting all of UT's success in 2006 to Cut and telling prospects that Cut will be gone in a year or two, tops. I'd believe it. Heck, I believe the second part of it already.

That figure is wrong. We have 1 5* and 2 4*s(soon to be 3).
If you want to credit UT for signing two guys that were too dumb to get into school two years in a row then please be my guest. IMO you shouldn't get it both ways, which means either they don't count this year, or you lop 'em off last year's tally and the Vols 2006 signing class is ranked somewhere closer to 50th nationally than 25th.

With all of the exposure Cut's getting for what he's done with the O and w/ Ainge, some team is going to offer him the HC position and he's going to take it. I hope we bring back Walt Harris after he;s fired by Stanford, but make no mistake, Cut leaving will hurt recruiting

That may be true but I read the article in the paper and saw the quotes from Cory Hall himself explaining his reasoning about choosing Tennessee over Auburn. The article also made a point to say he was already qualified.

From Xtra:

Tennessee is not considering Corey Hall a commitment for the 2006 class. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound defensive end from Chattanooga Brainerd High School has not been offered a scholarship by the Vols.

Hall is expected to attend a junior college after high school. Then, UT will evaluate him further.

Hall told the Chattanooga Free Press in a story published Wednesday that he was committed to UT after receiving a scholarship offer.

I read that he had already qualified and that he was heavily recruited by Vandy (which leads me to believe that he wouldnt have any trouble getting in to school) so if that has merit, then why the juco route

so he goes to Fork Union or someplace and adds some weight and maturity, comes back for the 2008 class, what was that juco school in the midwest we used to place guys at all the time and they seemed to always win the juco natl champ?

Fork Union is a prep school and is 1 year. If we had the choice, we would go prep(either FU or Hargrave), but his case is worse. JUCO for sure. Coffeyville Community College in Kansas is one we like.

right coffeyville is the one I was thinking of, dont they always produce some major talent for us
