From another board...

Remaining recruiting targets

Due to the low number of commitments UT has and the few days left before signing day, I decided to take a look at who is left that UT may have a shot at signing. Thisis not as detailed as what Jumpmaster and Greenevol have provided in the past, but maybe some will find it useful.

UT has about 8 or 9 scholarships remaing to give and it is likely that most will come from this list.

1. Casey Kelly--3 star QB--will visit this weekend--he is an excellent baseball player and may play both in college or may get drafted and forego college football.
2. A. McClaim--4 star--most readers here know that UT has a good shot, but there is talk that there may be some grade issues--great propect though.
3. D. Thomas--3 star--OT from Louisianna--needs to add weight unless he has gained some since the 250# figure from Rivals was reported.
4. K. Page--4 star--OG from SC--Ut is still in it along with ND, Clemson and UNC--my guess would be Clemson.
5. K. Wells--3 star--DE from GA--UT the OSU battle--distance is somewhat of a factor--UT looks good, but he will have to add about 35-40 pounds.
6. Q. Coples--4 star--DE--Enrolled at Hargrave for his SR year of hs and came to UT for the JV game and will have his official visit on 2/01/08--UT has a good shot--he is expected to choose from UT/FSU/UNC/NC St.
7. . Scruggs--2 star--DE--most know his story as a band member until his Sr. yr.--will visit Mich. St. this weekend--a lot of upside, but UT may have moved on with him.
8. W. Bohannon 3 star--DE--UK commit--visited UT recently and will decide between UT and UK.
9 Jerrell Harris--4 star--LB from Bama--will choose between UT, So Cal/Clem/Bama/ and Auburn.
10 P. Waggner--3 star--DB from Louisianna--will visit Nebraska this weekend-- some had him pegged as a silent to UT, but his visit to Lincoln creates doubt as to the silent.
11 E.J. Abrams Ward--4 star--Athlete--it is a UT/UNC battle--he can play a number of positions and would be a good get.
12 A.J. Alexander--4 star--athlete--will choose between UT/FSU/UNC
13 Marcus Davis--3 star--Athlete from Virginai--will visit UT on 2/01/08--will choose between UT/VT/PSU.
14 Tony Gillespie--3 star--DT from OKie--played at Jenks High outside of Tulsa--6'-1'' 300# DT will visit 2/01/08 and choose between UT and Texas Tech--we need him!
15 Jomarcus Savage--3 star--DT from Bama--looks lke a UT/Auburn battle, but he will visit South CArolina this weekend--another need.

this is what Im afraid of, it's down to us and another school and the other school wins every one. All I hear is how Phil is such a great closer, well, put up or shut up.

don't forget about 5* RB Enrique Davis. It seems as if he might have dropped miss st from his list and its down to UT and Oregon. I think we have a good shot.

I thought that he was an Ole Miss lean

I thought that he was an Ole Miss lean

His most recent interview debunked that rumor. He said he was not a commit to Ole Miss. In fact his wording was something along the lines of "the visit did not blow me away enough to commit." He went on to say he was very excited that him and Coples were getting to visit UT.

Terribly disappointing that there are just two DTs on that list.

I completely agree. It isn't our ranking, or our avg. stars, or lack of 5* in this class that is really bothering me. We had specific needs to feel - and I'm beginning to worry that we aren't going to fill them. If you don't fill a need, but instead get some shining 5* prospect - even that is disappointing....this could be worse. I hope that we close strong...goodness knows that Phil has done it before.

dont say that, someone will call you negative and tell you to shut up.

Well when you have about 5 threads all saying the same thing, I think that's when people start telling you that.

"We are getting waxed"
"Falling behind"
"Why is it that"
"What happened to us"
etc.

Just tell me when I need to stop

Of these, I believe we'll land:

Wells
Waggner
Witherspoon
Coples
Davis
Abrams Ward
Thomas
McClain

If that happens, UT will have two unused scholarships after Warren and Morley, right?

I'd be ecstatic if they got these guys. How about Wadley?

maybe you dont get the point. recruiting is the lifeblood of a college program and while UF, UGA, and Bama reel in blue chip talent, we're falling behind. While you dont want to admit what's happening because you prefer to keep your head firmly stuck in the sand, two down recrutiing years out of four is going to show up on the field. it's a simple as that. jim jones would have loved you.

Rex, you're a pastor, right? What does the Bible teach about hopelessness, pessimism, and knee-jerk negativity?

I admit readily that this year doesn't look good and may well end bad. But either way it won't be the end of the world or even of UT football. They'll play next fall. If CPF made good hires and Chavis gets himself together again, this weak class will probably be sandwiched between two great ones and all will be fine.

If he made bad hires then he probably will have to look for an honorable way to retire... and we'll get to see if recruiting to UT really IS as easy as some seem to think.

Rex, Were you impressed with KU or Mizzou this year?

KU's best class in the last 4 years was 38th according to Rivals. MU's was 33rd. Both average outside the top 40.

Honestly, I have never see you this irrationally panicked.

NO. This class is not looking good... but getting all squirrely about it isn't helping a thing.
