The sky is not falling.

Yes, this was a low scoring game, but that is what happens when really good defenses meets a bad night of offense (for both teams). At the end of the day, Georgetown is a really good team, who's ONLY loss of the season was in OT to the #1 team in the nation. I still think CCM has this team headed in the right direction. Do we want to go out and score 36 points? No, absolutely not, but we're still able to compete without our all SEC forward. No harsh feelings on my part. I'm not going to be the crazy "overreact guy." Looking forward to the next game. GBO

You obviously didn't live through the Kevin O'Neill era. The sky is not falling but if you score 36 points in a college game, you have a long way to go.

It would be nice to see CCM pick up the pace some on offense, passing the ball around outside the arc for 30 sec every possesion is just not cutting it.

Let me just say that I'm missing Bruce Pearl right now.

(Someone has to say it after a loss)

Well the team is averaging about 72 PPG. So, my friend, that is what you call an anomaly. Don't forget, the other team (#20 in the nation) only had 37 points.

I remember reading posts similar to this after the Gators beat our football team...turns out the sky didn't fall. The team just wasn't good.

Well that's the point of a 2-3 zone. It's extremely hard to drive on that type of defense. It's like trying, in football, to go deep on a Cover 4 or prevent defense. You just can't. You have to take what's given to you. Tennessee does not have the knockdown shooters to make a team pay, for running that type of zone defense.

True, but in argument this UT team is horrible on the offensive end. It goes Stokes, Golden, rock bottom. We haven't had a consistent three shooter since Lofton. I'm not talking a guy like Lofton I'm talking about a guy who can shot 5-7 threes a game and on avg hit 2-4 of them every game. Zone defenses will kill this team till they learn to either shot better or learn to not dribble around for 30s before deciding to penetrate lane. Terrible offensive strangely by Martin.

Vols have played two legitimate D1 teams (Ok St & Gtown). They scored 45 pts vs OSU and 36 vs G'town. May not be as much of an anomaly as you think, my friend>

I disagree. Yes, shooters would help tremendously, but you have the get the ball to the key and allow some high low actin with your bigs. The middle of a 2-3 is always open and you have to exploit it. Got to find a way to get some 15-18 ft jump shots that when hit can lead to high lows and easy buckets. You also can play the mustang in a 2-3. Key is to have great spacing and play the weakness of the zones.

I think were a pretty good basketball team. This was a road game against a top twenty team. We should have won by making our free throws didn't happen. We have to hope Maymon comes back soon and if not soon redshirts. No need to play him if he can't make it back by SEC play.

Right, but after a defensive rebound you can run the court and not give Georgetown time to set up a zone. GT would of had trouble if we would of played fast pace after turnovers and rebounds.

Maymon will make a huge difference. He is a physical player who brings a lot of toughness (mentally and physically) to the floor.

If Maymon redshirts and Stokes stays (definetly not ready yet) then with the addition of Hubbs next year this team will have some hype.

We really didn't have a chance to push the floor and when we did we got very sloppy and made a lot of TO. I'm not sure I like the idea of having Hall come out to the arc to help space the floor on a zone. That's a TO waiting to happen IMO. I just don't like Martin strategy idea on offense. I understand the idea is to play to your strengths and keep score low and let your D win games but on fast break this team hasn't proven that can consistently score against a great basketball team without making horrible TOs.

My hope is that we get another shooter at guard before next season. The most exciting prospect to me is Landry. He's ability to pass and dribble is going to be crucial for us. I can see him playing PG and letting Golden play the two and become a scorer.

It is disheartening to be dreaming of next season this short in to this season.

Happens when you lose your best starter before the season starts.
Without Maymon this is just a below average team.
