Bituli isn’t what you’d call a good example, since Nashville Christian had tons of $$ and hand picked players to come to their school.

I disagree. NCS is not an annual participant in state championships at the single A level like many other private schools and some public schools are. Donelson Christian, Franklin Road Academy, BGA, Goodpasture, and Davidson Academy were a few schools with more state championship appearances than NCS. Back in the day when there were 3 classifications in Tennessee South Pittsburgh, Lake and Trousdale Counties were frequent state championship type teams. You may be confusing Brentwood Academy with NCS, they for many years had a student body size which alowed them to play in single A but they elected and won most of their state titles at the AA level under Carlton Flatt at the time.

I never remember so many threads on walk-ons as this year. Either we are assembling the greatest walk-on class of all-time or we are starved for recruiting news.
Being creative with walk ons/nil deals to supliment self imposed scholarship limitations. Or at least that's what most are speculating. Alot of these kids could have went to decent non power 5 schools on scholarship.

Tennessee football: New preferred walk-on could provide major value to OL
Just getting this on the board so in the years coming I can point back to it. I have worked this kids basketball and football games since he was a young man and the Vols got a absolute steal here. I have worked so many D1 athletes in my 18 years of working ball and have always been amazed that this kid did not get a ranking! It might be because he missed a season due to a bad knee injury or it could be small town single A ball that kept him from any notoriety but I can tell you he should have been. A few things about this kid that always stuck out were his quickness and hands for a big guy to go along with his mean streak. I would not be surprised with time in a real weight and diet program if he does not see the field in his UT career. Super polite kid that has been raised well and worked at Walmart during high school.

Fantastic. Every team needs a "Gus" on it. It's good luck.

The state championship team he played for had eight Division I players on it. Our team played them for the state championship. we were completely out matched.

So, again, not a regular one 1A school

I think we will be seeing a lot more walk-ons who actually see the field, from here on out. I am not just talking about Tennessee. I think the NIL money is changing a lot of the dynamics of recruiting. Yes, that means I think walk-ons are getting at least some of the NIL, and it is changing their calculations, and giving them a better opportunity on a bigger stage.

NIL and PWOs should go hand in hand...

This is a way to add quality depth and leave open scholarshop spots. At least thats how i would attenpt to manage the current system.

Steroids built them into the powerhouse they were.

Also, I'm not sure if they sent them on a mission like BYU or just let them work on a Co-Op farm but when we played them in the Orange Bowl year before 98 Natty. I looked at their Oline average age was over 23 close to 24. I had heard a lot of their players were not on normal scholarships not sure how it was structured but it worked back in the day.

If you think 4-5* players don’t use today I’ve got an ocean front home In Montana to sell you. Those players were still no name walk-ons regardless. They weren’t naturally Bama Saban era superior recruits.

Osborne was a Genius at his system and plugged in tough old country boys with size that were overlooked. Read that article it is very interesting and clever. Heupel is doing the same exact type of thing now.

Yeah, Oklahoma and Nebraska's roiding in the 80's and early 90's is well documented though, until present day Bama actually gets busted roiding that sounds like loser butthurt.

I said some 4* 5* players still use as well.
I then said: THEY (Nebraska walk ons) were not
natural: noun
-a person regarded as having an innate gift or talent for a particular task or activity.
"she was a natural for the sort of television work required of her”)
BAMA SABAN era superior athletes.
I never said said present day BAMA players are roiding. Your reply just sounds like poor English reading comprehension and projection guy.

Yes David Grogan was amazing and will always be Fayetteville’s what could have been story. Chad is from Fayetteville but did not go to Knoxville, during that time we had Eddie amd Ricky Blake who went on to pro careers as well as Kelley Holcomb.
I went to school with Kelly Holcomb. LCHS class of 1990. I watched David Grogan body slam a kid on the courthouse lawn one Saturday night. It was hilarious. Total waste of talent.
