2 names that Butch should consider if off season staff changes are coming. Would like to see Debord shifted to full time O-line coach if Mahoney is axed. Brewer would be a great candidate for Offensive Coordinator/Qb Coach. Currently is the OC/WR coach at UNC but has coached QBs in the past. Also bringing in Fair to replace Martinez just makes too much sense on defense. He has done a great job at CSU.

Haven't followed Terry Fair's career but, he would bring the right attitude. He was a true shut down corner as a player and dared any QB to throw on him. Confidence like his forces you to be the best player you can be.

If I was a successful player for the Vols, it would be a cold day in hades before I would return here to be a coach. You already have a super + legacy like Fair. Then the fickle fans will want to fire you after one season of under performing. And that, regardless of whether you can control the situation or not.

Look at how the haters view Chuck Smith or Jay Graham now. These guys are legends who helped beat down our rivals on the field. Meanwhile, the legions of the miserable vilify them because the teams they coached on sucked.

My advice to Terry, Peyton, Tee, or any other former player is, go succeed somewhere else. Don't put your VFL legend on the line based on a herd of ignorant people. That's jmo.

These guys would not have such success unless they were "thick-skinned." You really think they wouldn't take a promotion because they are worried bout VN posters?

I don't think "the herd of ignorant people", on here or elsewhere, have must effect on coaches. They have tough skin, or are in another profession.
They do their jobs as they see fit, not as the "herd" see those jobs.

Imo, there are a lot of keyboard warriors out there/here who talk a big game, have big mouths, and who don't know when to stfu. We've had one national championship in the last half century. ONE. People act like we should be in the playoffs every year. So you're exactly right, as soon as one of these guys come back and we drop a game that we shouldn't, their VFL status would be dismissed.

I'm confused, does Volnation represent the fanbase or not? You seem to only want to say that we do when it fits the idea that the fans are the actual problem with the program, but then want to say that Volnation doesn't represent the fan base the rest of the time. So which is it?

I definitely agree that we need a new DB coach and it would be nice to bring in an elite OC with experience coaching QBs. I like the idea of Fair as DB coach, Martinez is simply not getting the job done and honestly our secondary looks like they have never played the position. It seems that our secondary is not being taught fundamentals and effective technique. They are always out of place and doing the wrong things. It is clearly one of the biggest areas where I see the need for drastic improvement, as well as the OL.

And I do not think a coach is concerned with what we think as a forum, if he was to come here and not succeed I think he would take that more as a personal failure than care about our opinions.

Most coaches are thick skinned enough the last thing they are worried about is people being a keybord. Volnation isn't that powerful no matter if some on here think they have that much control. That's the last thing they are thinking about every team has a message board full of nuts. GBO!!!!!!

Remember when we thought Justin Coleman was trash and now he plays for the Patriots and is good? Good coaching does wonders.

Don't know Brewer, but I'm all in favor for bringing in a new OC who could add the appropriate modifications to this offensive system....but CBJ must also get himself out of the way....

Martinez must go---Terry Fair would be a great choice as a VFL.....

I bet the Patriots are smart enough not to put him out there on an island in press man bump and run coverage, too!

It never was, for me, a matter of Coleman's motivation or his athletic ability....but he just couldn't run in man coverage with the elite receivers...

The answer is NO.

UT should reach out to Anthony Lynn, OC of Buffalo Bills who recently declined offers of HC at 49ers and Dolphins. A long shot i know but i feel the offense would evolve much faster if we could get an up and coming coach of his caliber. We have I think 1 more year of Debord but he could either be bought out or move to OL. Lynn would likely want to bring in the entire offensive staff as would any OC that was serious about winning championships. Just don't see much happening with CBJ's inability to see obvious problem areas, especially along OL and DB's. I don't get the Shoop hire if neither Shoop or CBJ can't see that our DB's aren't being developed properly.:twocents:

I don't see DeBord taking a demotion from OC to OL coach on this team. Butch would not do that to him and I doubt he was accept that. I've never felt our DB's were being coached well as none of them appear to know how to turn their head around and find the ball in the air, so an upgrade at coaching there is needed.

Jay and Chuck did excellent jobs coaching while they were here. Wish Both had stayed.

Terry Fair coached here already, and recently. He would be welcome back in a heart beat.
