Chester was the meek&mild side kick while festus was ornery&rugged. Both played their role well. However, imo, Festus gets the nod.

I’ve watched a lot of Gunsmoke lately. I like the older ones best so I’ll go with Chester. “MR. DILLON!!”
along with Festus being a good singer, he was a pretty handsome man when he was cleaned up and clean shaven.

Festus was so awesome, he replaced Frank Sinatra in the Tommy Dorsey Band for a while and sang with the Sons of the Pioneers as lead vocalist for a few years.

Yep, born in 52. Chester. Dennis Weaver had a good career after Gunsmoke.
But, Festus was good too. People just don't like change.
