Do not buy a gun until you have fired at least a few hundred rounds through a firearm of some type.

My only advice Sparty is to buy a revolver for a handgun. Main reason is they will not fail in a bad situation. There are many small carry models in the .38.

I'd have gone with you to look around

Like 3* and Sly mentioned the a Mossberg, or Remington 870 is a good choice for the house

I have the 870..as for a pistol, I prefer the 1911 model 45's but you should definitely shoot a variety of styles and calibers to find what you like and are comfortable with..

For a simple to use, and quality pistol you can't beat a Smith and Wesson .38 revolver


Just realize guns are like tattoos you can't stop at 1.
