I have a theory on why I think Brohm said no. Gundy was just an outlier and was never interested. Here's the theory... Currie is officially done at UT and the only reason he's not actually been fired is because we're trying to get a coach before we boot him. We're not going to hire a coach without an AD in place. I fully believe there is some kind of booster/admin power struggle and people are all on the wrong page. I know for a fact that John Ward has even been contacted and higher ups have discussed coaching ideas with him as well. John is Vol Network's Emeritus and works very closely with Vol Networks GM Steve Early. I think coaching candidates are aware of Currie's outing and the administration turmoil and that's why they are reluctant to sign.

We don't have ammo on Doeren like we did Schiano. I'm not sure the same scenario plays out again.

You didn’t have “ammo” on shiano. Just some unsubstantiated hearsay. Which has been proven to be BS by all involved. Shiano would be a horrible choice for UT but people that thought they had ammo on him are f’n stupid and making the entire fan base look just as ignorant. I bet those idiots are the ones that call in to Paul Finebaum.

Unsubstantiated hearsay is a lot more than the mere allegations that tear some people down. The fact that he was even mentioned in court by McQuery should've been enough that we never even got near him.

I am sorry, it doesn't make any sense to let an AD you know you are going to fire make the next hire. The relationship with the AD is probably the single most important thing for a new coach. I think one of the main reasons all these coaches are declining TN is because they know or suspect that Currie is a dead man walking, and they don't know who they would end up working for. To that end, it would make more sense to hire an interim coach or keep Hoke another year, replace the AD and start over on hiring a permanent coach next season. JMHO.

So you're basically agreeing with me in a very roundabout way.

:good!:

I have to respectfully disagree with this. It would be one thing to say we don't want to hire anyone who coached at PSU at the same time Sandusky was there, out of an abundance of caution, but accepting double hearsay is nothing more than accepting a rumor. The fact that somebody swore they heard a rumor is nothing to base a decision on.

To be clear, I wasn't saying I accepted the double hearsay. I was just saying the fact that the double hearsay existed tying Schiano to Sandusky should've been enough that we never got near him.

How long would it take to get another AD, such as Blackburn, in place? Is that something that could be done in a matter of days? And don’t forget that John Currie apparently has the only contract in existence that has a higher buyout than salary. So he makes more money by getting fired than by staying employed.

Doeren will mean I'm done with Tennessee after many many years, unfortunately:cray:

Currie is the most hated man in Tennessee until his ouster and he shouldn't be hiring UT's next coach when he himself likely won't be there....what a cluster Fu(k:banghead2:

I know some people like to say we are whining like a bunch of snowflakes, but no we are not. We are fighting for the survival of Tennessee football. This hire makes or breaks Tennessee football. So you can call me whatever you want, but damnit I'll voice my displeasure and tweet/email/call as many times as I want to stop a piss poor coach from being hired at my alma mater.

Doeren will achieve literally nothing here. He will likely be a Dooley 2.0. I doubt he could even compete with Butch's 9 win seasons.

I see your point, just don’t agree. We call that way of thinking “risk adverse” in the military. It’s a CYA mentality and it makes people do things for stupid reasons.

Yes. We're dead in the water until changes made in the AD. We're gonna end up with a garbage hire. Hire Fulmer for one year and then go get a home run hire over the next 12 months.
It makes me think any coach who accepts this job is to stupid to succeed if he can't see what he's getting into.

Chancellor Beverly Davenport is the one who didn't want Fulmer as AD so she brought in Currie. Devenport is also the one who botched the Brohm hire.

This is just messed up all around.
