Gun control debate (merged)

I have an idea: let's tell everyone to lock themselves indoors and that they are in danger if they interact with people. Get the news stations to run daily COVID tickers and vastly exaggerate the miniscule risk it poses to the young, healthy population. Now, have all the social media platforms pump their heads full of addictive half-/mis-truths while they eat junk food, drink tons of alcohol, and take more opiods than ever.

Problem solved.
Probably the guns fault.

You alright if they refuse to sell to black people? What’s the objective standard you want gun shops to use.

“I thought he may be a gang member and I did not want to be sued”

If one denies you their products for whatever reason (even if it’s BS), go to another supplier.
And are you also not opposed to increasing the voting age from 18 to 21?

The human brain doesn’t finish developing until the mid twenties, so I would be fine with increasing the voting age too.

That’s crap. We have delayed the maturity of our children as our lives have gotten easier, several of our founding fathers were early 20s and a few in their teens. Are you going to tell me their brains weren’t fully developed?

First world problems is why a large chunk of society has went to s***.

No, I’m saying that since America has higher gun related deaths and murders compared to peer nations. If we were an all white nation, who knows if we would be having this discussion. But we aren’t, so I’m not understanding why we’re referencing one race’s homicide rate when we’re a multi racial country.

Also I never said it was the only factor I care about. But we’re in a thread called Gun Control Debate, so I’m zoning in on that factor. It’s one variable that I think can be modified to increase/decrease homicide rates.

Okay. Poof!

We swapped all the white Germans and their guns with White Americans and their massive arsenal of weapons.

What country now has the highest homicide rate?

Why don’t you take it up with the scientists and the studies that show otherwise: Adolescent Maturity and the Brain: The Promise and Pitfalls of Neuroscience Research in Adolescent Health Policy

What point are you trying to make?

Undeveloped brains behind the wheel of a car? Nope, don’t like that.

I'm sure you'll take comfort in knowing the 20 yo driver that was texting veered over and hit your wife/gf/SA/mother/father/child head on paid more for his/her insurance.
So would you tell the parents of the murdered children in Uvalde that our system is working perfectly and nothing needs to be changed?

That’s easy. There’s no correlation between guns and homicide rates
So why does America have more mass shooters than any other developed country? I’m not saying it’s the guns, but there’s clearly something or multiple things in the American fabric that are causing psychos to grab powerful weapons and murder innocent people.

Is the goal to reduce homicide in general or only from guns?

Does it being a shooting make it worse than a bombing/car going down a pedestrian bridge/some other form of mass death?

I want to figure out what’s causing so many males in America to go out and kill as many innocent people as possible.

We don’t have as many of those deaths though. That’s why I think banning guns is asinine. If you remove the guns, we’ll just have more Timothy McVeigh style attacks because we just changed the apparatus and not the factor(s) that cause people to go psycho in the first place.

Do you? Because I’ve only seen you focus on the guns. Surely you don’t think guns make you go kill innocents? Because if they did, it would show up in the homicide rates

I mean we’re in a thread called gun control, so that’s why I’m talking about access as one of the factors. I suppose I could make a thread talking about other potential variables, but I don’t know how much traction it would get.

You didn’t really answer the question. You believe guns make people want to commit mass murder?

If so, our homicide rates should be elevated

Who said I didn't think things didn't need to be changed? More gun control isn't the change that will achieve the results that would reduce these mass killings.

Now discuss the White Swiss with their crazy high gun ownership rates. I never felt safer than when I was in Zurich. And no one, even Hitler, had the ball to even seriously think about invading them in Centuries

I never said guns make people want to commit mass murder. Guns are the vessel. That being said, do you think the Uvalde shooting would’ve happened if access to semi-automatics were restricted to 21+ and/or required a background check, waiting period, training courses etc.?

Who said I didn't think things didn't need to be changed? More gun control isn't the change that will achieve the results that would reduce these mass killings.

So what do you think needs to be changed? As far as the “gun control” angle goes, I wouldn’t be upset if semi-automatics were restricted to 21+ unless they’re active duty and/or have extended background checks, waiting period, mandatory training courses etc.
