Gun control debate (merged)

I'll be here waiting for one of the resident gun-grabbers to explain which of the four purchased firearms are considered "assault rifles."

In B4 "Think how bad it could have been if he had used a semi-automatic rifle with several cosmetic similarities that we've been conditioned to call and assault rifle/weapon of war.".

I'd been wondering what the hold up could be in announcing an AR being used if that were the case. Apparently the idea was to hope to generate as much inference as possible and let everybody run with that idea.

I'm not seeing any long guns listed there, that's what the media initially reported.

Well the 700 is definitely a rifle and depending on chambering could certainly be considered "high power".

It sounds very much like the people trying to control the narrative are (probably intentionally) are conflating an AR'ish pistol carbine and "high power rifle" together to present the "idea" of an "assault rifle" being used.

My sarcasm is lost once again. The press were claiming that the shooter had a "long gun" then they changed it to an assault rifle. Along the way "long gun" got replaced with assault rifle. Back in my day there were only rifles and hand guns.

Your original observation of "Not seeing any long guns listed there" would seem to run counter to the 700 cited by the tweet. Was that not what you were referencing?

In any case yes...one can almost assume confusing reporting about firearms given how most in the media are on EL levels of ignorance on the subject and even those that aren't are trying to run with a narrative.

I mean, I guess a PCC would be considered a "long gun," albeit really in its own category. Certainly nothing on the list would qualify as an assault rifle or "weapon of war."

Agreed, although the 700s were popular sniper rifles, along with the Winchester Model 70.

But no one would be interested in assaulting a position with them.

As a prior USAF Airborne Teal Beret Ascot Seal I can confirm this is true
