Gun control debate (merged)

Did you know that if I wanted to buy this for my 10 year olds birthday that they won’t ship it too him in NewYork. View attachment 465382
That's pretty sweet but pricey. Me and my brother had replica M16s when we were kids. I think they may have been (A-Team) toys (which we couldn't get enough of) my mom loved going to house auctions & estate sales so they may have been actual vietnam era 1960s/70s toys that predated the show.

One of the points he was attempting to make (beefing up security everywhere except schools, basically) reminded me of something I saw the other day which is pertinent:

Yea we had the fully automatic ones that kinda revved up when you pulled the trigger.

I see you went back to 1968 to grab those stats that included all related gun deaths , that’s cute . Get back to us when you are serious about preventing deaths without restricting rights of people that do not cause any deaths with there inalienable right to bear arms …

As I mentioned earlier, pointing at other problems doesn’t make the problem at hand any less serious. Alcohol related deaths being bad and gun related deaths being bad are not mutually exclusive ideas.

Actually … all three of those are worse than gun related deaths by a huge margin . Ignoring the other 3 problems just to focus on this one , doesn’t help your argument when it comes to restricting my rights . ( I must have missed the other two threads with the liberals in them daily talking about how they should be restricted) . Maybe start with the ones that will be easier to solve and work your way up to firearms .

What, exactly, is my argument?

1. semi trucks still kill people every year (4000). no one ever tried to take away semi trucks. and despite this we are basically right back to where we were in semi-caused deaths. and the change was due to the pressure put on by the citizens who were fed bad info, thinking they had been beheaded, instead of "just" having their necks broken to the extreme. Fatality Facts 2020: Large trucks
2. hyperbole to the extreme with this one. They are so "childproof" grandparents usually have to give them to their grand kids to get them open. and they are still responsible for 500 deaths per year.
3. handled by the same ATF in charge of guns. and the "severe" restrictions are that you cant store a certain amount around other explosive or flammable objects, or heat sources. https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/FR-2019-04-01/pdf/2019-06266.pdf
4. yeah not sure the TSA is really the shining example you want to use. I think most people recognize there is limited gain of safety compared to the impact on travel, and loss of privacy, as well as governmental profiling.

plenty has been done since 1967, where your list starts. the issue is that none of the solutions we have tried, nor any of the proposed solutions address the real issues. taking away freedoms from the law abiding is not the solution. hasn't worked in the past, won't work in the future.

and as always, none of those cases you listed, except for maybe the last, have anything to do with the rights of the people.

that’s pertinent to you. This is pertinent to me.
1982 Chesterton Indiana my friend Karen was basically decapitated by going under a semi on I 49. Long after Jane Mansfield.

Also in 1982 the Tylenol tampering was an attempt for a woman to cover up killing her husband by creating a fictitious boogeyman.

1995 Timothy mcveigh pulled off what seems to be an impossible act of internal terrorism.

2001 the year the gov successfully fooled millions into to giving up their freedoms for the promise of safety on a lie.

My guns have never killed anyone. There is no data or emotional plea anyone can make to me that would make me reconsider the right to defend myself in the way I see fit.

Still, the fact remains that his logic is flawed as evidenced by the counterpoint created by these facts, which are just a few of the many of such examples that point out that the “right to defend myself” is defended much more vigorously than other rights regardless of consequence… and that normally people prefer to address real problems in lieu of indulging in unfettered hobbies.

All through basic and AIT I used M14s. Later on while doing radar repair we were required to fire M16s for familiarization. It felt like shooting a toy gun. There were a lot of jokes about looking for the Mattel label.

The right to defend yourself is just part of the 2a. All other rights exist at the protection of the 2A.

The lack of understanding of this concept from the “ we need to do something now about gun violence crowd “ just baffles the sh!t out of me . It’s truly amazing to me how they intentionally ignore all statics except those having to do with firearms and point those out like they are the real problem . Any legitimate source you want to look up from any country has firearm related deaths falling into two categories, Suicide and Violence . Anyone with two functioning brain cells can look up these stats per country and see where they fall . I’m going to help our brain cell challenged friends out by providing a per country break down of the top 50 leading causes of death , I know they aren’t going to look at it because it destroys their omg our guns are killing everybody agenda , but here it is anyway . Look at where Suicide and Violence is per country and explain how it’s not a people problem .
LEADING CAUSES OF DEATH BY COUNTRY

Edit : interesting side stat from looking at these countries .. Mexico has a high violence rate ( expected ) but a lower suicide rate than most countries .

If someone silenced your voice you can speak again. If they take your life your done.

@evillawyer come on back and tell us again about how “ studies show “ that having a firearm in your home doesn’t really help you any . Normally I’d prefer to ignore the studies and just ask the ones breaking in so we get it directly from the source , but ummm..
