Gun control debate (merged)

You aren't scared of fully semi-automatic assault rifles with high capacity clips?

Does anybody remember that USA Today graphic that made it seem like the average AR-15 owner has a grenade launcher attachment? Only in a utopia...

Idk I’ll have to wait for luther to come up with a definition.

You are wrong . Your personal, subjective opinion of what something is doesn’t matter .

This is 8 sots in 1 second with a revolver . Let me say that again .. 8 shots off in one second using a wheel load revolver.

The six and reload was the most impressive.... dayum....

Because I do not have a defintion.
I would define it (at least partially) as a gun which had a rating of firing more than x rounds per y seconds.
That's not a definition until you define your x and y. Speaking in the generalities you do highlight the weak sauce that your argument truly is.

At this point, it doesn't matter. Our country's moral compass is completely caged and any path that leads to God is fine. As a supposed Christian, I am surprised you even posed this question.

We don't have a unified or dominant Christian tradition in our country, and the difference in traditions would make a sizable impact in implementation and acceptance.

Do you really want kids bring taught in school that they are totally depraved and God has already decided which ones are redeemable and the rest are SoL? That's Reformed / Calvinism.

The Puritans we worship? God made you so He could hate you. All holidays are cancelled (including Christmas) and saluting and pledging the flag is no longer allowed.

I could go on.

As I said yesterday, this debate does nothing but lead both side to hold the other in even less regard.
Currently, I can't really seem to lower that regard any further, which is a position I would honestly prefer avoiding.
There is only one person on these boards that I could possibly hold with less regard than I do you.

You are searching for components to fit your argument. I have no clue who Calvanism practitioners are, and I don't care because they are an incredible minority. What's funny to me is that I see all these larger variants (for lack of a better term) of Christianity throwing bricks at each other. I am fairly new at this, so excuse my 'ignorance', but my wife and I attend a Baptist church here on the Island. I have heard all the jokes in the past about Baptists, and I still don't know where they come from. We have a good pastor that teaches a good message every Sunday. I was Baptised in the Atlantic Ocean.

Oh... and something else you said caught my eye as well. The way I understand it... God does already know who will come to Him and who won't. Yes you have free will, but God already knows, so are your Calvinists really wrong? And another thing I see is you throwing rocks at this thought process, but I haven't seen you say much of anything about government schools informing children that because they are white, they are somehow responsible for all the ills that have befallen those of different races...

Frankly, your stance here is surprising to me.

I taught public school in Tennessee for 14 years. My children have attended public schools in five states, with one stop being in a very left-leaning district for a year. My wife works as a middle school library aid. I am in schools every week supervising student teachers. I have colleagues and friends across the country in classrooms every day.

The are some teachers and some districts that have jumped the shark. They get media attention over the schools and classrooms where incredible things are happening. But having the perspective I have and the community I belong to that regularly discuss what's going on in their districts, none of that matters.

I could take willing people to a thousand random classrooms in the United States and let them see for themselves what is going on - the good and the bad - but none of it would matter as many minds are already made up. And if one classroom we visited sucked and the other 999 were quality, all we'd hear about is the one that needed better training, better administrative guidance, maybe even a better teacher. Because that's the one that fits what a certain population wants to be true.

We appreciate that...but have you not been at a University level for quite awhile? The stories we are seeing now would be unacceptable to the American populace even just a few years ago

That's a very valid point. I have open disdain for ivory tower academic elites, especially in teacher prep, who sit in their offices and never go out into the field to see what's actually going on. I am doing my absolute best to stay connected to the public school classroom for the benefit of my students and their future students.

One of my former students teaches middle school social studies in East Tennessee. He hasn't seen any of this in his curriculum. I've checked in with teacher friends across other states and they aren't seeing this either. It seems isolated to very specific areas: either high minority and high poverty, or affluent near large population centers.

I also have my two children to keep to with. Nothing so far for them. And my wife isn't being asked to approach any of it at her school.

So yeah; you're right, I do have a barrier between me and the daily goings on. But I'm aware of it and doing everything in my power to make up for it.

Nice! I bet she fired pretty smoothly in her time.
Actually right out of the box it misfed about every other round. Really pissed me off. After tearing it all the way down, thorough cleaning, and proper lubing I don’t think I remembered it misfeeding a round since. I’ll sure miss her 😥
