Gun control debate (merged)

I'm rolling more with gun nuts are getting nuttier and are being increasingly viewed as a societal pariah.
I'm convinced nothing will be done, things will get worse, and gun nuts will use the worsening conditions as proof that their position was correct all along. (part of their nuttiness)

What exactly will get worse? It seems all crime data has been getting better despite more guns

There were two shootings during my 8th grade year on school property, one inside the building. Meigs - 1974
The guy who set in the row next to me in 11th grade LA was shot and killed during a drug deal. (away from school)

I carried guns to school , almost all the guys did during hunting season, not one school shooting .. what changed ? The access to firearms has gotten tighter , so it wasn’t guns , what changed ? Let’s start there .

I'm curious how many of you gun lovers grew up in a rural environment.
Where any of you raised in an urban environment?

We've had a people problem since the proverbial Adam and Eve and we will always have a people problem.
We should always work at understanding and addressing those people problems, and we should also continue to lessen the harmful effects of people problems.....that's were the gun issue comes in.
Or we could just start profiling once again.

I lived in both. Lived in urban until 5th grade. Lived in rural until high school graduation. Currently my wife and I live in urban and we are looking to get back to rural.

While listening to the progressive radio shows today, their definition of the second amendment was for only the military and/or LEO's to own firearms. During multiple segments of their shows, the EO issue was brought up, with the talk about banning AR15's by EO and semi-automatic handguns. Their remarks regarding AR15 ownership were extreme, especially against a so-called tyrannical government, because one man with an AR15 or several thousand men with AR's, can not stop a government that has nuclear capabilities. We'll just nuke you. Verbatim.
Sounds like typical liberal poons that think earplugs are bullets

I do not necessarily answer to the term „gun lover“. Any rather „freedom lover“. The gun is just tje tool of freedom Just as a spear, a gladis, a broadsword, cutlas, a flintlock, or a musket would have been in another age.
But to answer your question, yes most assuredly rural by the Grace of God, and proud of it

The Soviet/Russian experience with the Afghans nd the Ukrainians as well as our own tussles with the Vietnamese and those same Afghans show it to not be quite such a simple equation

Thanks for the reply. Your answer makes sense. I'll use "weapons lover" if that is better.

In a world where churches were vandalized, someone threatened to burn the Eucharist and people showed up at SCOTUS members private homes……you think 2A supporters are becoming societal pariahs??? You’re delusional.

I do. They may not be the only group, but they are certainly one of them.

Thanks for the emotional approach to taking my firearm away because I don’t need it . Let’s hope we all don’t feel the same about your right to vote while we are suffering through food shortages and historic inflation.

Nowhere did I advocate taking your firearm away. I stated the opposite, "But I do not think that possession of the rifles themselves should become a crime. We need to stop people who want to commit mass murder from walking out of a gun store with one of those guns, and the only way to do that is to ban their manufacture and sale. That is what I support doing." I think that current owners should have the right to keep them.

The reluctance of so many is telling.
I would guess that people raised in a rural environment view guns differently.
That's completely understandable.
Those that grow up around guns view them differently and typically have a greater appreciation of them …..as well as a healthy respect. It’s very rare to see this type of person being or acting irresponsible when handling them.
