Gun control debate (merged)

I think I picked mine up for like $350 or so. Sold it for $500 some years ago.

Had I known the price would skyrocket like that, I would have waited lol

I can remember them being pretty plentiful around the house , the 9mm ammo was cheap and everywhere . We ( buddies and myself ) talked about getting one just to go on the 4 wheelers. I never thought they would reach these prices .

It has a cult following so to speak. More for the unique factor rather than being a legitimate defensive arm. A fun plinker for me, but never one I considered as "useful" in the self defense realm after I owned and shot it for a while.

I will say this, that bolt was never going to break lol.

Yup that’s why we were talking about having them on the 4 wheelers . The price going up wouldn’t have helped me , I would have been too rough with it then .

I remember replacing the buffer with a heavier duty model. Also, the recoil spring. That bolt slams back pretty hard.

Found the Camp 45 mags. Left to right
Orig Marlin 7 round, Kimber Kim Pro 8 round, Chip McCormick 10 round. All feed perfectly

.357, .41 Mag, .44 and .45 LC.

I don't think you could go wrong with any combo in particular on that.

I'd agree you couldn't really go "wrong" anywhere in there. The .38/.357 seems a bit "plinky" to me in a rifle. Then again that might appeal to many, especially if they don't reload. The .41 is neat but also a bit niche. The last two with proper loads and capable hands are actual big game calibers even in pistol platforms. (see Harry Callahan and Larry Kelly) If you wanted to "serious" about carrying both for all things (bipedal and quadruped threats, big game hunting) the larger calibers are pretty legit. A nice 5.5 Blackhawk with standard 44M should give you something around 1250fps/830fp. Out of a rifle you'll be talking about 1600fps+/1400fp. The +P 45LC loads would be similar.

I guess in the end we all need a set for at least a couple if not all of those calibers. (until they get near a large body of water of course)

A .357 out of a 16 bbl is going to be fine for most lower 48 predators and other problems. The .41 has a really rabid following (like the 10mm so to speak) and is perfectly acceptable for such a thing. I thin it'd be the most balanced overall IMO.

Yep. All I have left from mine are the magazines. Boating accident got the actual guns.

A person could certainly get by with the .38/.357, particularly in areas where one isn't anticipating any bruin issues, but there's a pretty pronounced drop off in comparative performance.

I agree the .41 is really balanced and indeed has some extremely loyal supporters but it's just not terribly common (in loadings or distribution), certainly in comparison to the others listed here. How much of an issue that is lies, of course, with who plans to be doing the shooting.

I typically look at any pistol caliber carbine as "extending a pistol to 100 yards." For a camping or ATV or "working in the backwoods" truck gun, I think it'd be hard to beat a matched revolver and lever gun combo.

I mean, if knockdown is your worry, you can always get one of those .454 Casull mods lol

Yes they do. Their duty is to protect and serve the public. Whether they do a good job of that is a different story.
Legally, they have no duty to protect you. That was resolved a few years ago after that school resource officer went to trial after that school shooting in Florida.
