Gun control debate (merged)

Assault weapons have been banned before in our lifetimes. You people act like it's the end of the world. Face it. There is no justification for a citizen to own one. That's really all there is to it.
Why is an AR-15 an assault rifle again? Because it's black? Because it's scary? Please explain this to me one more time.

Is that the only rifle they are stopping production on or is it the only one that fits the agenda ?
They’re only stopping civilian production to focus on military/LEO contracts. And they are upping production of deadly handguns. This probably should have happened a long time ago. There are better manufacturers of AR’s out there, and Colt’s high pricing is simply a reflection of the name on the gun, not necessarily the quality of the rifle.

Yeah with all their recent troubles I was wondering how long they would keep their current product model going. That was one of the reasons I bought my LE6920 a couple of years ago if I wanted to own a “Colt” (yeah yeah I know I know @Grand Vol but it says COLT!😀). Turns out I was prophetic!

Now read the article out loud to yourself. Colt didn’t just suddenly decide selling AR’s to the public was immoral. They acknowledged they are no longer competitive. And they are right.

These gun grabbers are funny , they see a headline that fits an agenda and they run with it . Colt is going to make their ARs expensive to buy on the secondary market in a few years .

I was wondering where Colt fell in the amount of AR business done. just going off what is at some local shops it aint much.

I would guess that they were a small player in the AR market. Colt's exit will have a negligible impact at most.

People that were considering buying a Colt will now just choose an AR from the literally dozens of other manufacturers.

My rifle in Basic was made by Mattel.

I was under the impression that colts AR rifles were made by Colt Defense, completely separate from their handgun manufacturing sector. As with all things colt.... who even knows anymore.
It does sound like a good strategy for them though.

Browsing social media, the gun grabbers are claiming this was some sort of victory. If you look at the actual numbers, colts market share was way down in the last 10 years. Now, look at the numbers of Daniel defense, BCM, or even brownells retro line. The AR 15 isn’t going anywhere, anytime soon. Soooo... capitalism won, as usual.

Same goes for me. Had a 6721; turned it into a solid Patrol/CQB rifle (thanks, GV), and then thought "what if they come after the AR's?" So I bought another 6721 for spare parts...got bored; tuned it up; put a Nikon P223 on it; and dubbed it my "reach out and touch someone" rifle. Trust me, it will.

Now? I'm thinking Springfield Saint AR pistol. Held back initially in favor of a Colt 6933, but now I'm thinking pass on the $200 NFA expense, and use that money to put an Aimpoint PRO on the Saint pistol. If it gets that bad, I could not care less about the noise. I don't buy guns for their "comfort level"; I buy them to win gunfights.

I love my Colts. They require some money to make them reach their full potential, but there's a reason why every AR15, to this day, is still compared to the Colt.

All of my guns have a purpose. Hopefully none of them ever have to get used for it.
