Gun control debate (merged)

There needs to be a lot more discussion on what exactly is meant by "common sense" regarding BGC. If it's simply getting around to doing a better job of what they are already intended to do, along with better enforcement of what's already on the books, that's actually the sort of thing the 2A guys have been saying for years. For anything else whatever is going to be called "common sense" is going to have to come out into the bright light and support itself on actual merit as opposed to the emotional "doing something" schtick.

When's the last time you heard of the .gov using actual common sense?

Very uncommonly. I just want the grandstanding to stop and we get to the "show me" part. If the final result is mostly shoring up implementation of what's already on the books then fine. Otherwise it could get ugly.

I agree with this. However I’d say it’s a bit dangerous to just wait and see. We need to wait and see on results but we also need to actively now tell our representatives what the expectations are of them.

We need to be contacting our reps now and explaining that to them. Explain how if any additional restrictions are passed you will never vote R again regardless of how they voted. If you are member of the NRA drop your membership and let them know if any additional restrictions are passed they will never see another dime.

That's fair. I've just developed an allergic reaction to the "do something for the sake of doing something" routine that's become so common with the feelz approach society. The legal maxim "hard cases make bad law" (which has been true since first invoked back to at least the early 1800's) goes hand in hand with this type of scenario.

I had a flash to the Michael Bolton discussion in office space:

NRA: So tell me, what's your favorite gun?

Trump: I don't know. I mean, I guess I sort of like them all

NRA: That's a riot. I'm the exact same way!

Trump: *Advocates for confiscating guns without due process*

Also Trump: "I'm the biggest 2nd Amendment supporter there is."

The NRA deserves to be disbanded for supporting this ass hat.

Emotional law making has given us the Patriot Act, internment camps, Prohibition, criminalization of drugs, etc. Why people are happy to throw away freedoms for the illusion of safety is beyond me.

We agree on that. Emotional legislation is horrible legislation however that is exactly the libs agenda. They don’t want to talk about deliberate background checks and streamlining the existing system in the absence of a tragedy because that’s not what they’re interested in. They want only one thing gun confiscation and they need tragedies to give them their “just do something!” platform.

I thought Republicans were all controlled by the leftwing boogeyman NRA?

At least, that's what I've been told by CNN and MSNBC

What people need to realize is that both parties are actively finding ways to strip your rights. I've personally never understood gun control. Seems like a completely irrational response to mass shootings.

Let's penalize everyone, because of a few mentally deranged idiots.

Yeah, this will work out well for Trump.
