Gun control debate (merged)

You said "pro gun" folks. And never addressed the anti side of the house.

The anti side was addressed by stating that we need to determine if a problem exists and how to solve that problem. Acknowledging that there might not be a problem that can be solved by gun control measures is a step many of the anti gun folks refuse to acknowledge.

I have heard a lot of asinine and ludicrous arguments from the right-wing crazies, but this might take the cake. If a private citizen can afford a WMD, then under your analysis it is okay for them to possess one. There's just no arguing with that logic.

Your biases betray you. I never said the citizens should be able to own a nuclear warhead. I said that whatever the govt owns, the citizens should be able to own as well as to protect them from govt tyranny. If you don't think the people should own a nuke, then neither should their govt. Governments have been the most destructive forces on the face of this planet and we trust them with planet ending weaponry with no way to defend ourselves against them. That's the crazy thing.

That didn't necessarily address the case in point.

Be careful about implying what others think, counselor. There hearsay in some places :)

Afford? Hell most anyone can afford a WMD, it's just the know how and skill to assemble and deploy that is lacking.

The upkeep costs will getcha every time.

About every Wal-Mart in the country has the components for a big Ka-Boom (WMD). That fact should scare the bejeebees out of some. Good thing there isn't a quick way to spread the know how quickly around the world... :eek:hmy:

The main issue is that the pro gun folks refuse to consider any possible solution with the that won't work refrain and the you're just out to get my guns. Somewhere and at sometime people need to sit down and rationally examine the issues and determine if there is a problem, what the problem is and possible solutions. The unwillingness to even take a look is troubling to me.

Goes both ways......

Using your logic I'd have had to amputate left and right hands back in the day.

By the time the police arrive the body count could already be in the 100s. See Paris massacre.

Besides, supreme Court precedent states police have no obligation to protect you (Warren vs district of Columbia)

Just a quick hypo - Mohammed Al Akbar Dalai Lama is going to attack the local Wal-Mart on Black Friday. Al, as Mohammed Al Akbar Dalai Lama is known, approaches the Wal-Mart before it opens when there is a huge throng of people outside waiting to trample each other in hopes of getting a cheap TV. As Al approaches the line of innocents he pulls out his assault rifle with its his high capacity magazine and takes aim at the crowd.

Now, at the same time, Cletus Jethro McCoy, who is approaching Al from behind and who is licensed to carry and has a desert eagle strapped to his left hip, a .45 in a shoulder holster and knife in his boot sees Al approach the crowd and draw his weapon. He quickly pulls his .45 and quickly squeezes off 5 rounds, the first 3 are off target and hit 3 people in the crowd. The 4th and 5th find their mark and strike Al. Al falls to the ground, but is still twitching about so Cletus, fearful that Al might still try to kill some of the innocent Wal-Mart shoppers, races up to him and slits his throat with his knife. It all happens so quickly that Al doesn't even get off a shot.

The three people that were struck by Cletus' errant shots all die. Unlikely as it seems the three people killed were all sisters. LaShonda, Tangilique and Zeniqua Johnson were all in line waiting to buy their children Christmas gifts. Interestingly, they each had 4 children by 3 different baby daddy.

Does Cletus get prosecuted for negligent homicide or do you throw him a parade?
