Gun control debate (merged)

People get arrested and go to prison and when that happens it prevents deaths. You can't know exactly how many or who, doesn't mean we don't work to catch people distributing it.

Any more than if we restricted gun sales some lives would be saved, some kids, maybe yours, though you'll never know who or how many.
Your a lawyer. Change the constitution or shut up. Good lord

I've lost a former patient and a patient's parent in the past 2 years due to Fentanyl OD. Only firearm death in 18 years was a handgun suicide by a father.

No. I'm saying people often need a helping hand that unfortunately is not being provided through private or religious charities. At that point, the government provides a temporary helping hand. Part of that helping hand is a transition period where assistance in finding employment and affordable housing is provided. At the end of that transition period, the person is back on their own,
Sounds like the current welfare program to me

You dream. Prohibition leads to gangsters getting rich. On top of that, advances in 3D printing and at home milling make gun control laws useless. And before you even think about ammo restrictions, that is easily made in small underground shops too. Gun cotton (smokeless powder) is basically sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and cotton that gets nitrated through the oxidation process. Brass is easy to come by, so is lead. See where I am going with this?

Except we can.
Gun control is an absolute failure and makes the problem worse everywhere it’s tried.
The assault weapons ban was a proven failure. It did nothing but make the problem worse but there are morons who want to do it again.

I once sat in the high school parking lot after school and looked at several hunting rifles with my friends and several teachers. It was right after school and everyone was there in the process of leaving. Nobody freaked out or had a problem.
I had access to and played with/shot a mini 14 as a 14/15 year old. All my friends did too. Guns were everywhere among my friends. We were not unsupervised and we’re all taught a high level of gun safety. We didn’t shoot up schools or each other.
That’s a problem among today’s youth and younger adults.

I wonder what’s changed?

The media has done more to radicalize and encourage violence than any established hate group.

Gun sales already have restrictions.

If we restricted personal pool ownership we’d save lives too. Probably the majority being kids. Why no push for that?

Except it’s not temporary. It’s passed on from generation to generation.
I think pretty much everyone recognizes that as a huge part of the problem.
That's why I support measures that would reduce the number of unwanted kids being born into that cycle (or any cycle).
That's why I support measures that would incentivize NOT having kids until you are emotionally and financially equipped to be a parent.
That's why I support measures that would reduce the number of able bodied people living off of government assistance.

What about a “clock” of sorts? An expiration of welfare assistance after ‘X’ years?

Or some sort of X benefits in Y time - then it’s cut?

It seems as if the Bible is saying that putting the interest of others before yourself is an admirable quality. Maybe I'm missing something.
As Tzar said there is a difference in expressing that quality of caring for others needs freely and being forced. One is Godliness and one is socialism.
I would never block you Luther, you are far too entertaining.
