Gun control debate (merged)

I'm rolling more with gun nuts are getting nuttier and are being increasingly viewed as a societal pariah.
I'm convinced nothing will be done, things will get worse, and gun nuts will use the worsening conditions as proof that their position was correct all along. (part of their nuttiness)

I’ll give up my gun right if you give up your voting right… deal ?

Banning Assault Rifles

Herschel Walker just gave a rambling speech, with a line about "taking your rights away." I always supported Second Amendment, and I still do. I know all of the arguments for it, and I've made them in the past. I still think everything I said was reasonable and right, except for one thing. When it got a lot of children killed, it stopped being right.

So don't talk to me about taking away your rights or "the security of a free state." High capacity, semi-automatic, high powered rifles on the market do not make us more secure. Obviously, they make us less secure. If you do not believe me, ask parents of those dead children. Ask the children who survived. Ask any sensible person. Do I think police should knock on your door and take away your rifle? No, and I want to quash talk of any proposed legislation to that effect, as quickly as possible. I believe that owning high capacity magazines, i.e. over seventeen, should be illegal. But I do not think that possession of the rifles themselves should become a crime. We need to stop people who want to commit mass murder from walking out of a gun store with one of those guns, and the only way to do that is to ban their manufacture and sale. That is what I support doing.

Look-it, I've owned a few semi-automatic long guns. I enjoyed shooting them and learning about them. I used to carry an M-16 rifle as a soldier and thought I had the right to own a high powered, semi-auto rifle if I wanted as a civilian. No, I don't. I have no right to weapons of war when they are the guns of choice to commit mass murders one after the other. Will the murders continue after people are no longer able to walk out of guns stores with assault rifles? Yes, but the murders will not be nearly as bad, and police will be able to respond more quickly and effectively.

I want gun owners to understand that banning assault rifles is not the end of their gun rights, not the end of our country, and not the end of the world. I imposed a self-ban, and I'm doing just fine. I do not need one, and neither do you. I do not want one, and I don't think you should.
ANY gun can be an assault rifle. Gun have been around decades. You want to stop killings. Teach kids they're not some evolved goo.

What alternative would be worse? A world where we abolished the Federal Election Commission and 6-7 parties got their candidate on the debate stage? A world where Thomas Massie was considered mainstream and not hated by half of his own party? There are hundreds of better alternatives to this **** show.
If the system breaks down then it’s war. A real **** storm. There is no chance you’re system emerges from the **** storm. More that likely it’s massive death and destruction.
But good luck with your hopes and dreams

You misspelled abortion

People are so stupid.

Look up the FBI stats on what weapons kill the most people. You will see that blunt force objects kill more people every year than rifles.....of all kinds.

The commies little gun control wishes will be complete toast when 3D printing is better. Anyone one with the right equipment can just build their own. Even a 1928 Thompson if they want to.

Also, The American citizens must be just as well armed as the police. That keeps us much more free.

The operator is THE factor because the firearm is just a tool and an extension of the operator . It will just sit there a rust down to nothing if it’s never used by the individual.
That's like saying every car is designed to have the same top speed and the only factor is the driver,
In other words.....that's complete nonsense.

From what I’ve seen, you probably shouldn’t be allowed to use scissors

This is a great point. People are getting nuttier. While guns have been around since the beginning of our founding.

The question is why is metal health deteriorating? It has nothing to do with the gun. What’s changed?

Could it be violent realistic first person shooter games?

Social media?

Erosion of a solid basic family structure?

Prescribed drugs?

Erosion of spiritual values?

I’m not blaming any one of these, though I think they are worthy of consideration. But we know the gun situation has been pretty static, so doesn’t seem to be at the root of the problem.

It is obviously all of those things, plus a 300% increase in population.
And guns have become more deadly and easily attainable.

I've got one: To have as close to matching fire power as I can to government officials.

A well armed population can’t be suppressed by a tyrannical government. It’s not so much about winning a war as not being overcome. I’m sure some moron will say something about fighter jets in response to your post but it will show a profound lack of understanding in what that conflict would look like. Russia is struggling to overrun a neighbor where they don’t have to care about the damage they create. Can you imagine trying to fight the American people while trying to maintain a country?
