The fact that laws do not stop all crime is an accepted fact. To use that fact as rationale for no new laws or as an argument against improving the laws is simpleminded.

I've always been for continually evaluating the effectiveness and fairness of laws and making appropriate changes.

What thing we never talk about in these threads is the drug. Just like prohibition of alcohol, prohibition of drugs has caused mass violence.

The black homicide rate is about 10x the white rate. A large reason for that is gang related violence and those gangs are overwhelmingly involved in the drug trade

People (the potential criminal) have to be willing to obey the law (the tool) the same as someone (the potential criminal) has to be willing to use a gun (the tool) to kill someone. Limiting or increasing the number of tools doesn't diminish the willingness of the potential criminal.

Don’t know about Florida, but most states do have laws about private sales. For example, pretty Ga and Tn it is illegal to sell a gun to someone you know is disqualified from owning one for some reason. Not arguing the efficacy of such laws, but there are some…

You can't sell to someone out of state either.

When the instances of a particular undesirable action are reduced by the passing of a law, then it's safe to conclude that the law reduced the instances of the particular action.
