Gun bought for personal protection: how'd that work out?

I would hate to think I got shot by a Hi Point. That said I guess they have a larceny & murder charge on them.

Isn't this an everyday occurrence in FL?

Or are you trying to make some asinine anti-gun statement?

I'm saying that, many times, people buy guns for a seemingly good reason, then someone takes it and lo and behold ....

I am a proponent of the 2nd amendment, but there is no real reason for handguns to exist.

For home protection, a shotgun or rifle is vastly more effective than a handgun.

As for CCWs, I can see where people are coming from, but, while small, handguns are not CQC weapons. I've played around with Kali (knife Martial Art) before.. And frankly.. People who carry a knife with some training on how to use it are more readily able to defend themselves IMO. Also, given a small amount of training, knives can be effectively used to defend yourself in a non-lethal way. Where as handgun instructors teach to shoot until you see daylight.

Once again, JMO. I personally know many people who disagree vastly. But the people who can use a knife and a gun will prefer to just carry a knife instead of a CCW.

Thanks LG, even if I didn't already subscribe to the idea of armed self-defense this little tidbit in that link would have convinced me it might be a good idea.

The first fatal shooting – the attack on Guerrero – was for Konrad's personal enjoyment, police said.
"He thought it would be fun to shoot Mr Guerrero," said Kissimmee Police Chief Lee Massie. "This is the type of individuals we put in jail today."

Just...damn.

Test your theory on any ccw holder.

Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Not true. In a close situation, gun defense is easy. Control arm, control slide, and then the gun is a gun-shaped piece of plastic. Knife defense in CQC is a 5% survival rate, and that is generous.

Now, if the gun is more than 2-3 feet you are right, but how often do people get mugged from a distance?

Anyone familiar with the Tueller Drill can smell what you're cooking but let's face it, you talk to anyone that makes a habit of putting themselves in harms way and you'll find damn few (I'm hedging here, I'd honestly expect none) that would opt for a knife over a firearm outside of some very finite scenarios.

I have a Hi Point 995 - it's actually a pretty darn good gun if you can get past the look of it.

I know a couple ole boys that can take your knife from you and stab you with it. I'd rather not get that close to them or you.

I'd prefer my pistol or my shotgun.

I can make a promise that if you have a knife & I have any type of gun you will lose.

Story references sex with a runaway. Crimes of passion are rampant in today's society and could be prevented by legislating the extermination of women. IMO.

Or I could just over power you & kill you with your own knife.

A woman might disagree with your thoughts on just being able to use a knife. A gun makes a woman equal to a man.

Watch this and tell me most women and many men would be better off with a shotgun than a handgun.
