Guitar Shots: FoleyGate in Retrospect

Kudos to Lane for standing up for his territory while a recruit is on an official visit. Cheat was a very strong word, but in the end the entire incident will end doing much more good that it did damage. The proof will be a top ten recruiting class next year.

Exactly my position on this issue. Ditto.

I would imagine that we will be, barring any significant injuries. There will be a contingent of folks campaigning for USC to get that honor, but with Florida having won the BCS and returning its entire defense and most of its offense, including Tebow, I think the voters will simply feel obliged to put the Gators #1.
I'd like to know who is campaigning for USC to be the pre-season #1 after they lost a ton of starters on their defense and their starting QB.

Florida is the easiest choice for the pre-season #1 since, well, USC a few years ago.

To be honest, I'm not that up on their current personel. Was just my general impression that they are basically loaded with talent about 4 deep at every position basically through about 2020.

Making a post and not being up to date about the subject in the post. From Lawgator.

Never!

doesn't matter. Experience and last season's finish matter much more in these preseason polls (see UGA #1 last year). USC lost some serious defensive talent and they have a QB controversy now. Their Oline was lame this year. I think there are questions. They can answer them and get there, but question marks are the arbiter in these preseason charades.

You guys have fewer question marks and don't have the question of a tough schedule next year. The SEC just isn't going to be very tough.

Anybody who isn't biased should have UF as pre-season #1. There are always some left coast homers that will put USC at the top, though. Anybody remember the last time a pre-season #1 was breaking in a new QB?

I think that forgetting OU is a really bad idea. They put together some D and they are going to be tough to handle.

Highlighted portion is exactly what I'm talking about with the previous mentality. The days of Bobby Bowden walking into a recruits home and making friends with mama are gone. The three main factors in recruiting are:
Proximity
Playing time
Getting to the NFL.

That is the reality, and the reason your criticism is way overblown. Petrino/Saban have proven that if a parent thinks a coach can get their boy to the NFL, nothing else really matters.

If you feel comfortable defending Foley and Slive for helping make the mountain out of the molehill there is very little I can say to disuade you.

Don't get me wrong. I love words integrity. By the time a recruit has visited (insert school name here) it is likely that your head football coach has been attacked from every angle.

As a parent I can tell you that you are very wrong in your assessment. I have been through the recruiting process as a player and as a parent and I can guarantee you that if I want my son to go to a particular University they will go to that University. They may think its their decision, but in reality its mine. Almost every parent that I have ever talked to during recruiting has said the same things. The parents talk to each other and there is a very strong network for information. The parents do talk. Your dilousional if you think the parents have no influence on the decision. Ask Richardson, Jackson or Marlon Brown if his family didn't have an influence on his decision.

I never stated that I was defending Foley or Slive. I simply stated that the two situations were completely different. Foley made a big deal out of it, Hamilton didn't. Slive had to address it when Foley came out and made it a big deal. The real story here is why didn't Hamilton make a big fuss over what Spurrier said about Kiffin? It surely would have made a few headlines if thats what we're after.

You may be right, it may not have any negative impact on what happens here at all and then again it might. But why even take the chance? Publicity? That it somehow makes us relevant?

If we land a top ten class in 2010 it won't be because of this incident. I would say were more apt to lose one because of it than gain one.

you're describing a family with a strong father figure. I don't think that's the standard in the bigtime recruiting world.

I don't want to get into a huge sociological argument, but lets just say that there is little doubt that Flstf is much more uptight than most recruits parents. I say kudos, because I am too!

We're old school Flstf, and my assessment is on the bullseye.

as am I, so my house might operate that way, but I'm with you on the majority, as you can see in my comments.

Lord knows if I have my way all of my kids will get golf scholarships. Unfortunately DI football blood runs in the family on two sides.

Maybe I'll teach them how to kick. I want them to be able to walk when they are 40.

Also teach him to hold! I think Lane has ruined any chance for us to land a 5 star for that position!

When they moved away from the tee it ruined all the glory for the position of holder!
