Gosh, I'm not getting on here any more if people are going to use "facts" and "reason" for their arguments...

Where's the crazy "Dooley's terrible" and "this isn't La Tech" arguments?

Lexvol you nailed it in your blog. We do not owe Dooley our undying support he has to earn it. The points of my posts that have all deemed to be negative start with the premise that Dooley isn't Saban. He has chosen to run his program the way Saban runs his with the major exception that it works for Saban so everyone keeps their mouth's shut. That jury is out on Dooley and in adopting the Saban media policy it just makes his need to succeed that much greater lest the bloodhounds arrive in full armour and crucify him. He doesn't need to win 8 but the competitiveness must be there. My greatest fear and concern and I have stated it repeatedly is his Love of 2 and 3 star recruits and his ability to attract major talent to the program. Some differ but the last class was Kiffin's because of the early enrollees. Just as the product on the field will determine Dooley's fate so will his ability to have comparable recruiting classes with the elite programs. Fan support or lack thereof will be in full bloom one way or the other.

Yet, he's the coach of the Tennessee Vols and they do have my undying support. The interviews are over, he's one of us now.

I believe he signed more 4's than anything else ... How about letting every other coach in the country work with a 2-week recruiting season then, and then compare them?

Tennessee fans are tired and cranky...and most aren't buying it until Dooley shows the college football world that he belongs. You simply cannot blame them for the skepticism.

To his credit, I'm sure that Dooley is fully aware of this.

A good level headed perspective. I think the one thing that was not mentioned is how is Dooley going to put fans in the seats? Winning is the obvious answer but I don't see that happening in the near future. From this perspective, I believe DD has not done an adequate job selling the program to the fans from a PR standpoint. Even last year with all the excitement surrounding LK, he was unable to sell out many games. I think this year's schedule is favorable but the true test comes against teams like UTM, UAB, Memphis and to an extent Alabama ('08).

This is where I might disagree with you, Lex:

Dooley can win the fans over this year, and he doesn’t need to win 8 games to do it. Just give us a competitive product brought about by hard work and good practice habits, and the Vol Nation will follow.

There is a certain element of this fan base that doesn't live in reality. While many felt that the pedecessor was a world beater going 7-6 and getting blown out in 2 out of the last 4 games, those same people will be calling for Dooley's head at 7-6. Ridiculous, I know, but watch and see.
