Used to be our first destination on a night of binge drinking. Would always start out with a PBR to get the night going.

I am thrilled the Vols are playing in the Gator Bowl, but I was stationed in Jax the city is one of the worse places in the South, a simple Google Search will show you that:

The beaches did have some nice bars, landing was ok, Ponte Vedra is a bit of a drive but a nice place to stay

Yeah, far from the worst place in the South. I was stationed there for about 4 years and the only real bad place was the road going into Mayport, but just about every road that goes into a Navy base is nothing but hood.

88, we have 4 guys coming to the game, only there for two nights. We like to eat well and do not want to stay in a roach motel. Would you suggest trying to stay close to the stadium, in the St John's Town Center area, or at the beach (One Ocean, etc)?

Also, a steakhouse or great dining recommendation would be great, preferably close to where we stay.

My brother lives there and i have been there twice. Everbank stadium is ok, although they have a giant screen there now since i last was there. Downtown is not as good as other towns, buts its ok.

You must go to Maple street biscuit company. I think they have made their way up to chattonga in the past yesr, but still a great place to eat while in Jacksonville.

I'm not 88,but staying at the Towne Center would be the best route, especially if you're there for the game. As far as steakhouses, I highly recommend the Capital Grill, which is also located near the Towne Center.

Great, thanks. I was actually looking at CG on trip advisor last night. Hotel prices are much better in that area and seem to be nicer.

If you like to eat well with alot of variety, id stay near the town center or tinsletown area (a few miles apart) this area is where ALoft is located. Its a neat hotel and the opposite of roachy. You also have Three Forks, Mellow Mushroom and Seven Bridges nearby. You can also take a less than 5 minute drive to the town center so you have tons of choices.

Aloft or Indigo? Both look nice.

For a steakhouse, downtown has your Ruth Chris and Chart House but id recommend the Capital Grille or Three Forks if i had to stick with the town center area. But id honestly make the reservation to one of the downtown ones.

I havent been to Three Forks yet but heard good things. Ive been to the other three and they have all been fantastic.

Good question... if youre into modern experiences Aloft. My Dad always stayed at ALoft when he visited me in college and tried to stay there for my wedding. Either one would be a good choice.

I'm not gonna make the bowl game, but this thread us helpful so thanks. I've got to take my wife to the Mayo clinic down there sometime in February, so the restaurant tips come in handy!

It will always be Glocker to me.

I have a scar on the back of my right arm from one of those damn heaters to prove it.

I have a few scars from adventures with the grandson but I remember those heaters were something to avoid.

Ok, so where is the best place to stay that is easy to get to the stadium (doesn't have to be walking distance), walking distance to good bars/restaurants and has some cool shops. We will most likely be flying in and cabbing it, so I don't wanna take out a loan for cab fares!

There's alot in Jacksonville as far as food goes so there are definitely places that I missed. So if any of you Jax folk notice a good local spot missing, let me know and I will add it.

Angies Subs off of Beach blvd is one if you are staying near the beach. The Jack Del Rio (I know, its fantastic) is my sub of choice. Try the Peruvian sauce too.

Have you eaten at Chowder Ted's?

any good clubs / bars at neptune beach with some high quality chicks??

Lemon bar provides some nice local talent. Look at the bars under the OPs section of beach blvd. Thats south of you but thats where all the college chicks are. Ritz and Brix more specifically.

Tinseltown is probably your best bet. 10-15 mins from downtown

Bars: World of Beer, Tilted Kilt, Mellow Mushroom and Ale House in walking distance. 5 min drive to town center with a ton of shops. Youll give up something no matter where you stay.

Downtown is close with food but doesnt have shops. Towncenter/Tinseltown is medium distance with tons of shops and food in very close proximity. Beaches is far from stadium with bars and food but no shops.
