Guarantano's talent turning heads at Tennessee

I ask this ? about JG because I have just seen him play once and it was with a select group of 4 & 5 star players in Under Armor game. Was he playing in NJ largest classification in High school? Only time I seen him play was Under Armor.
He played for Armor team that got beat 27 to 00. Matt Fink USC, was 6 of 10 but threw 2 INT.
JG was 1 of 8 passing and 3 rush attempts for -18 yards
woody Barnett Auburn passing 1 of 3.
The other team , Team Highlight QB Malik Henry FSU was 9 of 12 , 2 TD's. He looked the best imo

Figures you'd be short sighted enough to have this take.

No, been very balanced about our 2017 QB situation......several of you have been very dismissive of QD and his ability to be our QB here, some have even predicted he'll transfer. I've simply said "not so fast" and don't count him out. That has nothing to do with also being excited that we have JG and what he can potentially bring to the table.

Two very talented young qbs who'll battle it out next Spring IMO and the program will be all the better for it.....that's a far cry from what you're implying and from what you think, which is that QD isn't very good and has no chance to play here.

Oh so you're a mind-reader now?

I've never said Dormady isn't good or has no chance to play here.

All I've said is Jarrett is more talented and fits our offense better. And that is why he'll be our starting QB in 2017.

I like Dormady and think he'll be a great backup QB. But he's not better than Jarrett. And he doesn't fit as well in our offense.

Where does Sheriron Jones end up in this equation? Hearing virtually nothing about him pre-season.

It's puzzling tbh. Maybe they're downplaying, but I don't see the benefit.

Respectfully,

Aren't you the same guy that got on Team 121, by saying all summer that (for success) it's this year, or never?

No longer on the future, post-Dobbs doom and gloom train? SAD.

I actually like Jarrett to take over for Dobbs and perform at a high level. My concern isn't that Team 121 lacks the talent to win it all. It that Team 120 is better. And not because this team has Dobbs and Team 121 doesn't.

The difference is Team 120 has Hurd, Kamara, Barnett, JRM, and Sutton while Team 121 doesn't.

You can't lose that much top-end talent and assume the team next year will be just as good or better.

The line he was playing behind was getting their behinds handed to them in that UA game.

Look up his stats against IMG Academy, a team full of 3, 4, and 5 star athletes. I posted them a while back but can't find it.

Edit: Here you go:

Yeah he didn't do so hot in the game, but he did well in practice iirc.

His high school, Bergen Catholic, is known for playing very tough schedules. Last year included a game against IMG Academy, which is full of 4 and 5 stars and the same team we offered 20 scholarships to at once not too long ago. JG's team lost, but he had an awesome game.

"BC’s Guarantano finished the game 30-of-38 for 379 yards and four touchdowns, good enough for a passer rating of 143.2."

Jarrett Guarantano’s huge game not enough as No. 18 Bergen Catholic falls to No. 12 IMG Academy, 59-47 | | USA Today High School Sports

Midseason Report: Who has played the toughest schedule? | | USA Today High School Sports

Edit #2: It was actually you who asked the same question last time lol.

Very much looking forward to watching JG play after QD'S successful tenure at QB in 2017 and possibly 2018.

Sort of like speed, though, right? You can't teach speed, but you can teach routes, cuts etc.

You can't teach natural arm strength, but you can teach placement and develop touch.

When he was being recruited, I saw him throw some "ouch" passes which were very well thrown. I guess he has not had to do that in Fall practice or no one is talking about since he throw the long and intermediate passes so well. I would think recruiting running backs the next two years will be very successful.

The Under Armour game is not a good measuring stick IMO. If you kept up with it closely this past year there were rave reviews about JG during practice and there were some even quoting that he was performing the best there. During the game they started the QBs based off of their ESPN rankings, not by how they were performing during the week which put JG at 3rd on the depth chart. In the game he only got in with a couple of minutes late in the 2nd quarter (1 drive if I remember correctly) and in garbage time during the 4th quarter. Two terrible times to enter the game where he couldn't get into a rhythm and another where the game wasn't even competitive. His offensive line also played like revolving doors. I believe a better measuring stick would be his performance during the season which featured some great outings against some great teams.

Wow, this is the 1st time I've ever seen you commend someone besides Dobbs.

You gotta dig a little bit, but if you look hard, you'll find him call Hurd the best RB in the country and everybody on the team other than Jay Rochelle and Charles Fogler a sure fire NFL first round draft pick.

There were also several drops in that game by receivers that JG threw the ball too. But he was running for his life. That Oline could not block the DL in the game.

All totally correct. I followed QD after he commited and was/am a fan. But I also see the amazing skill of JG. Its a good Situation to be in for TN, but I'm also alittle fearful one might get the itch to actually play elsewhere when his name isn't called. Sadly I fear it'll be QD. As great as JG is we don't need to over look QD, his skills are great also. Coming from a former athlete, not nearly on any of these guys level, it sucks waiting your turn. But I have no problem admitting I'm impatient.

Clemson has been good ever since Dabo took over but they did not get to the next level until Watson got there. JG may have that same impact

Indeed, an exceptional QB can be a season changer, just look what a difference that Cam Newton, Johnny Manzeil and Tim Tebow did for their respective team

I hope at the end of the year, we can mention Josh Dobbs among the great game changing college QB's

Perhaps Guarantano will be able to be mentioned among the great game changing QB's, time will tell
