Guarantano is the Starter Against WVU (Opinion)

"JG will be Tennessee's starting QB against WVU, but I dont expect CJP to make any sort announcement later today. Based on what we've seen and heard, I dont buy the "may play both guys" bit in the opener either."

This is the text of the tweet.

Best case scenario IMO. If Guarantano was able to hold off the grad transfer senior QB from Stanford who was 11-2 as a starter, that bodes well for the offense.

He may not light up opponents, but I believe this means Guarantano will be at least solid.

I don't think JG gets a fair shake from some of our fans. Any freshman QB would look as bad if they were playing without the benefit of an o-line. UGA and Bama's freshmen wouldn't have shined like they did if they didn't have all day to decide and an elite run game to keep the pressure off them. Lot of folks hated on Dobbs til he figured out he was on his own and had to run for his life first then worry about checkdowns.

I didn’t see any natural instincts that most good to great QB’s have last year. Some sacks where on the OL but in virtually same # of games QD had 6 sacks. JG had 26 some where basically worse than turnovers . I don’t think this instinct can be taught. Coaches can admonish tell you over & over but once speed of game instinct either there or not. Think this is bad omen for the season KC must be really subpar.

Well the offensive line got worse and worse as the season went on....we started a tight end on the line against Vandy. Yeah guarantano was a statue but there is only so much he can do. He is a pocket passer despite people who erroneously labeled him a dual threat because he is fast

It really doesn't matter if JG or KC starts since both will play....we'll be following the Alabama way of narrowing down our full time starter by whoever stands out early in the season.

I am not sold on JG.
I am trusting the coaching staff to make the best decision. They recruited Chryst for a reason.

Why are you not sold? First off, evaluating his results from last year is akin to evaluating the latest version of air freshener by sitting it next to a wastewater treatment facility. The offense in general was very poorly coached and the play-calling was chaotic at best. He was very highly thought of coming out of high school.

They may well have gotten Chryst because of a lack of faith in Will McBride as a backup.
