GTA: The Trilogy

Unpopular opinion, and I'm ready for the pushback - I don't think GTA games age very well. In the past year I've tried to play 3 and 4, games that I played to 100% completion when they were current, and I just couldn't play either for more than a few hours. There has been such a tremendous leap between each game, whether it's graphics, gameplay, storytelling, whatever, that the previous games get left in the dust. That having been said, this is going to be a pretty nice payday for Rockstar.

Note: This is interesting: Additionally, all three games have revamped controls, bringing them more in line with GTA 5. Specifically, movement, camera and targeting controls have been overhauled, which should make them more playable than ever.... Also radial menus for weapons, customizable waypoints, and instant mission restart upon failure. So that could definitely be something.

4 still holds up in my opinion. But the three that are getting remasters, I haven’t played since they were released and I beat them. I’m excited to be able to go back without using the idiotic accel/brake with the A and B buttons. That itself makes it 10x more playable to me.

I was a little quick to be negative about the remasters, but the more I read about it the more I’m hopeful they can pull it off. GTA5 really did kind of ruin it for the older games though.

Yeah it’ll be interesting. The graphical overhaul isn’t the biggest concern. Does water still insta kill? Do missions still just ****ing end when you die instead of auto restarting at a checkpoint? Quality of life stuff like that is what needs to be updated for modern gaming.. and I hate that term. But it’s true.

I have read, and I believe it's been confirmed, that instant mission restart will be included. I don't know about the water thing because in 3 (and maybe Vice City?) that was what kept you from accessing locked parts of the map.

I’m sure they could update the swimming mechanic and just put invisible walls up for the map barriers

I have no desire to go back and play any of these. Even with updated controls that mimic V. I'll just play V
4 was my favorite of the franchise. But it’ll be nice to leave ****ing Los santos. Even if it is just to go back to other cities I’ve been in with the series

Y'all know my feelings about GTA V. I still think it is the greatest videogame ever made. I have played it for years now and I will keep playing as long as they keep putting out new content. There is just so much to do, and so much variety that you can never complete it. No desire to go back to 3 & 4.

My gripe is that it’s a cash or time pit. If they added a new map at the least then I’d forgive a lot. But they canceled all story DLC for it. As long as the shark cards keep selling, they have no reason to give a ****

Confederate flags are being entirely removed from all three games, and that is 100% confirmed

Rumored changes are: removing fat jokes centered around Big Smoke and the Big Smoke order

Some unsavory language that is discriminatory- ie white characters using the N word, police brutality jokes, etc

So we can decapitate hookers, but at least no one says the n word or calls someone fat.

Can’t make this stuff up. Even the confederate flag removal is confusing because it’s on a stereotypical right wing red neck idiot so you’d think that’d be the perfect usage of it for the left. But I guess not.

It's ridiculous. I thought the original appeal of these games was the taboo violence, language, criminal activity, shock value, etc? Just some weird pandering.

It’s my understanding that there’s a couple things at play from doing my own research procrastinating at work in the past 30 mins…

1. The original brain behind the golden age of GTA isn’t with the company anymore. So the passion to keep his art preserved isn’t there with the new leadership

2. Ever since 2015, Apple has completely banned confederate flag imagery in their mobile games sold in the App Store. The GTA trilogy is also available on mobile. Follow the $$$

3. The CEO of grove st games, who did the bulk of the development in the remaster project has pronouns in his bio. Take with that what you will

I'll let you know on Dec. 16th. lol
Not trying to be a negavol GTA style, just my observation. I’ve discovered games like Yakuza have a lot more to offer with their narrative than GTA ever did in this period of neglecting it that rockstar is in though. So it isn’t all bad

That's the thing, they haven't neglected it. At least in my opinion. They're always coming out with new vehicles and events. The Stunt races are probably my favorite event. They just released the Los Santos Tuners story earlier this year. Cayo Perico last year. The Casino stuff the year before. Now The Contract story. They usually put out a couple of new stories or heists per year. For a game that is 8 years old, they keep it pretty fresh I think.

I purchased a 2 or 3 million $ card 3 or 4 years ago and that is the only money I have ever spent on the game and I used to have about 25-30 million in my bank account at all times. Now I think I am down to about 9 million just because I haven't played a lot this year due to other factors in my life. And I have played almost all of the heists and story stuff.

If you haven't played it in a while, here is a list of all of the updates they have done.
