Gt bragging! 3 @0 vs sec

A GT fan posted the whole story a couple weeks ago. Might have been a different thread. Interesting reading.

Basically, GT wanted a cap on number of scholarships. Bear said Bama would agree. When vote came down Bama didn't so GT coach pulled them out.

That was me. Can't get to it to repost but Google can get you there.

Dodd did not believe it was ethical to pull a kids scholarship if he didn't pan out on th field. He felt that if you offered a scholarship, you should honor it for the full four years...he wanted a cap of 30ish new scholarships per year and a max of 140 total football and basketball scholarships at any given time.

35 for 140

Georgia Tech should be a SEC team. Especially before Missouri. If the SEC goes to 16, I want GT and UNC. If that's not possible Va. Tech and WV. It might not be good for TV, but it's who I want.

Meh, I think Techs offense will sputter this season. Running the triple option makes it hard to just toss guys into that offense and have it work like clockwork. Their QB who was a master at the Triple-O is gone. Plus their center is gone. That's a pretty important position in the triple option also. They do have some great backs. Their defense is mediocre. With their O slowing down this season, I think Tennessee will come out ok. Especially since their Pass defense is really bad. Dormady will be able to zip it around.

Check out the VT 2016 game with backup QB, back up center, and back up OT....

Yeah, I mean that's a good reference game to see how Tech could do with the new guys taking over. But VT also had a bunch of their D out for that game. Couple D linemen out, secondary had to shuffle guys around Bc of an injury and a suspension. So it's hard to tell really. Those backs they have are all very very good. So our run D will have to seriously step up. But I still think GT takes a big step back this season. Especially right out of the gate. They will probably improve as the season goes along. Hopefully they kick UGA's tails again this season. It's becoming a guilty pleasure of mine to watch that late November game and see the bulldogs being ran all over by GT. I work with a lot of GT grads, all good people. Very very good engineers.

This guy led New York in doubles in the 9th inning in the month of November.... But his @ss still got traded to the Dragons... Old stats are fun to talk about, but honestly are meaningless when it comes to the future..

Disclaimer.. You probably have to be at least 30 to get the reference.

GaVol, So very true... just like the in the tackle box from the side cut block in the tweet. Also note the end of a cut block by the OT at the bottom.

I am just trying to create/generate conversation... all in good fun and sportsmanship.

Definitely a fine line. I will say though, the ugly looking block is 2-3 yards upfield and the LB can at least see it coming. The one at the bottom is more or less an Olé block trying to get in the way and slow down the backside DE. The guy doesn't even make contact. The only ones I'll ever complain about are when DTs get it from the side at the LOS where they can't know what is coming until they feel their knee give.

Bottom line though against GT, the lesson is that d-linemen - especially on the backside- better get upfield and not get caught watching or they're going to end up on the ground. "Conventional" offenses draw and screen to slow down the D-line, the Flexbone just whacks them in the knees and makes them play with their heads on a swivel.

From the bee forum.

This is the perfect time to play Tennessee.
1. They have to replace their offense so they will be very slow coming out
2. They still have injuries on Defense
3. Their defense last year gave up huge numbers, particularly against the run
4. They have never played CPJ.
5. They are looking at this game as an easy win
6. Their coach knows if they lose this game then his seat explodes. They will be tight coming in.
7. They are the SEC East, one of the weakest in the Power 5.

:lolabove:

1. Didn't know we were replacing all 11 on offense.

3. Does he know we had all 2cd and 3rd string in the last half of the season?

4. Never played coach Paul Johnson? This is a reason for winning??

7. Weakest in the power 5 in football? This is coming from a team that has rode on the skirt tails of FSU and Miami for 25 plus years that you can recently add Clemson in.

#7 is pretty funny. They are in the Coastal, they have no room to talk about the SEC East as a whole. That division is at best equal to the East, but most likely a few steps behind.

A healthy and focused Vols squad would've won the Coastal last season. Honestly, I think with relative ease. Obviously, we showed it on the field versus VT, but I think GT, UNC, Pitt and Miami would've all been the toughest games, and we probably would've been favored in all of those. Duke and UVA were not good last year.

All this talk about GT has me skert for the opener. Remember that beat down Utah State put on us in a much debated first game..... oh wait

GT is a legit good football team that can give just about any defense in the country nightmares. Unless our defense has improved immensely, this game is going to be ugly.

In state rivals can skew a fans perspective. I'm glad we don't have rivals like that.

Truth in this post.

There is nothing fun about the GT-UGA rivalry. I don't even watch the games anymore. Quit going in 2005 when a UGA fan threw a beer bottle at me from a passing car. I don't even watch on TV. The whole thing just makes me too angry.

It's not a healthy rivalry.

Our pass defense is probably the strength of our D. We've been terrible against the run for years.

That was the official reason, but the Chick Graning incident did more to sour it than anything else IMO. GT fans still hate Bama over that.

The GT-VT game and the UT-VT game were both similar, in that VT wet the bed on turnovers in both. VT had a very strong season outside those two games when they weren't putting the ball on the matt.

I don't know about the Ga Tech - Va Tech game, but in the Vols - Hokies match, we were up on them by I think 2 TDs before all but one of their turnovers.

Yes, they turned it over a lot. No, that's not why we whupped em.

In GT's four losses last year, none of them were bad losses. Lost to Clemson, Miami, Pitt and UNC. They wore out Vanderbilt, beat a good VA Tech team, bested UGA by a point and won their bowl game against a not very good Kentucky team. Lost 33 seniors and look to be pretty young for 2017. Loaded up with Freshmen and Sophomores. This team poses a problem for us IF, and only IF.... our defense isn't vastly improved over last year and Shoop hasn't done his job getting them ready.

Lost a lot of seniors, but not a lot of starters. All returning OL have experience, kept all our skill positions except QB. The QB is the real question mark on offense, the rest should be as good as they were end of last year, and the likely starter does know how to run the base stuff well. Arm strength is questionable, which means we'll probably just pass less.

The defensive line took a hit, and wasn't very good to begin with.

This is our most experienced returning team since the 2014 team, honestly, and we started a RS-SO at QB then.

I think UT and GT stack up pretty similarly in terms of who we're returning, and where our question marks are. I'm curious to see if your offense changes direction, with the new QB and revisions to offensive coaching staff, and if so, what direction it takes. Hoping all that is sorted out well before Sept 30.
