Grumors - Vol. 1

Gruden's contract at ESPN is reportedly $6.5 a year but likely contains an out should he get the itch to coach again. Clearly, as recently as interview with Finebaum in August 2015 he still has that itch and Tennessee would be a "dream" job. Joe Gibbs and dick vermeil both returned to coach after 10+ years away so I think timing will have to be right (end of 2017) and we will have to pony up Harbaugh money- $8 or $9 million to get it done

Gruden loves football it will not be all about the money if he comes back. He will probably make less than he makes now no matter where he goes if he ever does. Still before he gets too old I could see him taking a job for 5-6 million a year, it all depends on if he wants to coach again. I think deep down he does want to coach again but that's just me. It won't entirely be about the money, I do think this is one of the few jobs he would look at college wise. I also don't think there is many jobs he would take college or pro but I do think we are one that he would consider under the right circumstances. GBO!!!!

I'll shamefully admit I was all in on Gru-Mania back in it's hayday. If nothing else I thought his name alone would be a huge attractor for recruits. Taking a step back over the last couple of years he is still appealing as a head coach but I agree with most that he doesn't have much that he proved other than winning a SB with Dungy's squad. I would want him only if he were to truly bring in the BSiA top to bottom.

With that said it ain't gonna happen!

I was all in when Grudenmania was going down and I still am. I think he could make an instant splash with recruits and as good as CBJ has recruited, Gruden coild improve our talent level.. just like Harbaugh has done with Michigan.

I do think he had a lot of interest in the UT job... too much smoke for there not to have been a fire. Maybe not a huge one but it was there and how close it was to being a deal we will never really know. I would be all for him getting the chance to show us what he can do. It can't be any worse than these mid-major,budget, "diamonds in the rough" we have been hiring.

Only way it's gonna happen though is if we let the administration know by voting with our dollars. Trouble is we are a passionate fan base and it's hard to stay away. We may b**** about it all day but we still put our butts in the stadium and buy anything orange with a power T on it.

Winning a super bowl is no easy task no matter what situation he inherited. But I'm fine with Gruden winning the natty with a "butch Jones" squad. To his credit, butch has laid plenty of bricks, we need JG can come in and finish the house

Well the attendance dropped off at the end of the dooley era and that is what made the powers that be take notice. I have a feeling it won't take to many more loses in games we are supposed to win to see it happen again. Heck, if I were the bowl committee I would be campaigning for TN in the music city or liberty. I don't see fans traveling to far this year, I guess the belk bowl is fairly close. Don't expect the fans to travel as well as they did last year for sure. If Butch stays and struggles next year the fans and the administration are going to be at a MAJOR CROSSROADS, I hope the administration sees the potential here at Tennessee and goes out and acts on it. GBO!!!!

There is no shame in Grudemonium.

The AD, unfortunately in this case, holds the keys to Neyland. Gruden had been successfully courted but Bama Dave had to approve the marriage.

It says everything about Bama Dave to witness how he wanted to cement his UT legacy through the football hire.

Believe it or not - Hambone might be a better AD than Bama Dave. Hambone made big decisions. They were all wrong (except hiring Bruce Pearl) but he did have ambition.

Neither one was the AD we needed, Blackburn is but will the administration screw this up also remains to be seen. GBO!!!!

Such a great running joke on the Nation but in all seriousness I'd be all in on trying again.. Obviously we have a ton of money tied up with butch and Co. But if you look at college football in 2016 and beyond elite coaching = elite teams. Saban Meyer / Harbaugh dabo jimbo.. These are the "players" at the big schools, you can't compete with them better get used to 8/9 winning seasons. Period!

Yep this would make VN happy hire a career barely. Over 50% winning coach that wins on ESPN every week against AIR.👌🏼

NFL is very different

For instance, Tom Coughlin is a sure fire hall of famer and has a lower win percentage than Gruden

Gruden would take Tennessee to Bama and OSU levels. Recruiting would be out the roof and you could just about guarantee a good staff would be assembled. Top talent and average coaching can get a team 9-10 wins a year and a playoff chance 1 or 2 times every 4 years. If you have good to great coaching with top talent you can expect to be top 10 caliber every year with a shot at the playoffs at least 3 out 4 years. Gruden would have us at least in contention for the sec east every year and a shot at SEC Championships and playoffs every 2 out of 3 years, JMHO. GBO!!!!!

What has Gruden ever done to make anyone think:
1. he wants to coach again (enough to do the work it would take)
2. that he is a top notch coach that could take UT back to the level Fulmer took it?

What coach tried to talk Jalen Hurd into staying at Tennessee?

What high profile coach recently wore a TN visor and face-paint before the Florida game in honor of Pat Summit?

What super bowl winning head coach went to the Vols latest bowl game wearing a Vols polo?

What coach went on Mike and Mike playing Rocky Top and said that song gives him goosebumps?

What coach told Paul Finebaum that he missed coaching and that TN was a dream job?

What coach called TN one of the great franchises in all of football?

I could go on

Oh my, you're serious 😜

Gruden - HC
Tee Martin - OC
MARION HOBBY - DC
Keep Gillespie and Azzani (WR's have improved significantly this year, plus he's a pretty good recruiter. Bet he goes wherever Butch goes though.)
If Gillespie leaves too then go after Jay Graham.
Then on the recruiting front keep most of the class in tack, trim some fat, pick up Rutger Reitmaier, Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, and Cordarrian Richardson (All tennesse boys) and in turn make us better and Clemson worse. Boom. We did it. If only though.

I wasn't going to go public with this but I think we deserve some positive news to rally around. The person who won the powerball in Macon County last night is a huge fan of Gruden and Vols. Said winner is willing to put one fourth of the after tax lump sum, about 30 million, towards buying out Butch's contract and getting the first couple of years of Gruden's deal covered. They don't have high speed Internet in Lafayette so you probably won't hear much more about this until the checks clear. Soon!

I can confirm that the winner is a huge Vol fan.

But I don't think they will have that kind of money after splitting with the others and taxes.
