If you win the bet, you always win what you put in, plus whatever the Casino/Bookie puts the odds at. So a 1-1 would net you whatever you bet (you bet $100, you get your money back, plus $100 for the win). Otherwise, good explanation!

Vegas does, hence why you see a name like Peyton. They clearly hope a homer will put some money down, aka, free money for Casino. However, they are in the business of making money, and the fact they have Gruden with the best odds either means a crap ton of people are betting it, he is the odds-on favorite according to them, or he is a legitimate candidate (maybe not favorite), but they lower the odds due to Grudenmania (see Peyton Manning above, but with a chance).
