Are we being serious here? That's not going to happen. I would love to make a huge splash, but I don't think we are getting Gruden or Cowher.

I actually do expect Gruden to respond to the rumors soon, now that so many people seem to be discussing this. I would be stunned if he really gave it much thought.

a lot of guys make a career move in their early to mid forties. i don't think it is out of the realm of possibility that a coach like gruden would be challenged by the idea of winning at the college level. he knows that his football team is 3rd or 4th most popular team in the state right now and that college ball is considered just as prestigious to the NFL. he wouldnt have to deal with ego issues, keeping players happy, just recruit and coach. you never know. maybe gruden is thinking he could go and stay in k-town for ten years, be the most popular team in the state...its a possibility. it wouldn't happen to any other coach in the NFL who wasnt in the south a primarily college football market. Gruden would be a good fit, new challenge for him, and i think tennessee can afford him. who knows...

To be honest, the only reason I could see him making the move would be to avoid feelings of "staleness" in Tampa. Jumping ship before he is fired because despite his good teams, they haven't won another Super Bowl (although the way things are going this year that could always change). I just don't see us landing him.

Compared to the credibility of our sources at Volnation, I would rather take this thread as a desperate fightback.

:):)

My sources tell me that Gruden had a good breakfast, followed by a bowel movement. I promised i wouldn't reveal my guy, though, he is a pretty big booster.*

I believe coaching is about more than money, certainly CJG has all he would ever need in life. Coaching above all to most coaches is about teaching and seeing your efforts materialize into successful players on the field and men of character off of the field. The NFL is about players with egos looking to showcase their talent and be an individual. In short, the NFL is simply a business. A true coach would love the opportunity to mold boys into men and be at a place you have players that listen to your every word, and work to get better for the love of the game. We all know the NFL is about making the most money you can and not a lot of "teaching" or "mentoring" happens. Finally, there is the challenge in the SEC all coaches thirst for...the chance to coach against the best coaches in CFB (and possibly at any level) and win.

The Longer Gruden doesn't dispurse this coaching wildfire, the better it looks for Tennessee....

If we are looking for a super staff, why not go with Jimmy Johnson as the HC with Pete Carrol as the OC and Bob Stoops leading the defense.

Nice staff except for the fact that Carroll has always been a defensive coach.:)

Facts:

- Gruden is in Knoxville. Woody Paige said today on Around the Horn that he talked to Tennessee and Gruden is #1 on the list. Gruden obviously has strong ties to Tennessee.

- Lane Kiffin is in Knoxville playing golf with Jim Haslam today.

- Monte Kiffin, DC for Tampa Bay, has previously shown strong interest in coaching with his son, Lane Kiffin.

-Boosters and Athletic Department are ready to pay big money to get it right the first time according to Woody Paige.

- Gruden has land in Knoxville and would like to come back according to Woody Paige.

This would be sweet, but will not happen. Kiffin is not going to come to UT as an OC when he could be a Head Coach at several other schools. Lots of schools are wanting him as a HC so he is not going to settle for an OC job. I think he very well could be UT's next HC and that might bring his Dad with him as a DC. I don't think Gruden happens period.
