Gruden believes Josh Dobbs has "It" factor

The NFL is suffering from a lack of quality QBs. Very few teams have very good ones, perhaps 14 or 15 in total and that's going down to Mariotta's level of play.

Elite wise: Brees, Ryan, Rodgers, Brady, Luck, Big Ben with a few others on the cusp or needing a better team: Dak, Stafford, Wilson, etc. How many of them are within 5 years of retirement?

Jets, SF, Houston, Chicago, Cleveland (for 25 years), have immediate needs at QB.

Rivers, Eli, Brees, Brady, Alex Smith, Big Ben aren't getting any younger.

Carson Palmer, Sam Bradford, and others are injury prone. Maybe even Cam if he can't shake the concussions.

Bortles, Goff, Wentz, and even Siemian to an extent are unproven.

Backups and free agents list is short as well: injury prone Romo, Glennon, and Garappolo which I think is overhyped (Remember how good Cassel was before he left Patriots). Also Osweiler who either really didn't fit in with Houston or is a bust as well.

There is plenty of room for Dobbs, Peterman, Watson, Mahommes, Trubinsky and the other 2 or 3 decent QBs hitting draft day. Demand far exceeds supply!

I especially like Watson, Mahommes, and Dobbs from that group.

This is why I laughed when people said Dobbs couldn't make it as a QB in the NFL last year.

QB play in the NFL is laughably bad right now. Dobbs is good enough to start on half the teams in the NFL as early as next year.

The NFL will have a QB crisis in a few years in the next few drafts don't start producing more talent. Remember guys like Brady, Eli, Big Ben, and Brees are only a few years from retirement.

Dobbs will always be special to me but I just don't see it. However, what do I know if Chucky says he is special I'll go with him! Good luck JD

I wish him the best but the reality is he has everything except the accuracy to succeed. In college you can get away with underthrowing and timing that is slightly off. Not in the NFL.

49's or Ravens will take him late and if he catches on to the system, i see him making a roster. GBO!

I'm not concerned about Dobbs being "thrown to the wolves". Remember, he played behind the UT Vols line for the past 4 seasons. He ready!

I think Wentz did pretty well as a rookie until the second half of the season.

His offensive line was garbage for the most part of his sophomore and his junior season. We never really got to see josh dobbs in the pocket for more than 2 seconds without him fleeing for his life or getting drilled.

Agreed. I'd like to see what he can do with quality NFL coaching, and being surrounded by NFL talent.

The elites in the pros and college have QB coaches, Dobbs didn't. Seemed to me like he was just out there doing his own thing. He got high praise from an NFL QB coach a couple weeks ago when working with him. Jones failed miserably on what could have been.

I think Miami Dolphins would be a good placement for him. Sit a year or so and then be the starter then we can get rid of Ryan Tannehill. Matt Moore the back up could go now.

Never ever hope one of our guys to end up with the
J-E-T-S.
That franchise has been a never ending soap opera for decades. You can toss the Rams in there as well.

San Diego would be a nice option

His accuracy is perfectly fine. There are tons of starting NFL QBs with worse accuracy than Dobbs.

I think the people who thinks can't make it in the NFL simply don't watch NFL football. If they did, they wouldn't be making these outlandish claims acting like every NFL QB is Joe Montana.

The NFL is filled with a ton of lousy QBs with worse accuracy than Dobbs.

The NFL is also filled with QBs who were better than Dobbs was in college and are lousy in the NFL. Ive also seen time and time again guys who play with a similar style to Dobbs fall flat on their face in the NFL. Geno Smith, EJ Manual, Tebow, RG3, Vince Young, Andre Ware, Quincy Carter. Thats just off the top of my head. To be a successful NFL qb one must posses ELITE arm talent. Not good arm talent. Not good arm talent and elite running ability. The only way to be successful is with elite arm talent. Dobbs does not have that.

That has a lot to do with both play calling and WR development. Think back, the only time you ever really saw WR's running with great separation during a UT game last year was when they were running against our DB's.

Man! I hope you're right. I love the Saints. Die hard Vol fan,who was born in Tennessee, but grew up in South Louisiana. That would be awesome. I know he has the ability to learn more than just about anyone.
My hope is that Josh Dobbs get's drafted and sit's and develops for a year or 2 before being thrown in with the wolves. Hopefully he gets drafted by a team with a older QB and can learn and develop from him. Here are the list of teams I would love for him to go to.
*Jets- I can see him being sucessful here. They have major QB issues right now and he could see playing time as early as this year if he was drafted. They have Decker and Enunwa which aren't that bad.
*Steelers- Man oh man I can vision a Dobbs led steeler offense right now and it sounds deadly. Imagine Dobbs, Bell, and Brown all together at one time. It would be almost impossible to stop that offense. Plus training under big ben would be a really good thing.
*Chargers- Phillip Rivers is starting to get old and the Chargers are going to need a QB for their future. Josh Dobbs would look great in a chargers uniform, and the chargers usually have a good RB and decent receivers historically.
*Rams- Jared Goff is not going to be an NFL QB. Jeff Fisher seen that before the season even started last year. Once Goff finally took over, he stunk. Granted he didn't have much to work with, but he Did have Kenny Britt who just scammed the browns out of $30M.
*Cardinals- Carson Palmer is getting old and nearing retirement. This would be a perfect oppurtunity for Dobbs to take over when Palmer leaves. They have a good RB in David Johnson and always have a solid core of WR's.
*Saints- Dobbs being drafted by the saints would not surprise me one single bit. Brees is getting old and also nearing retirment. Brees would provide veteran and elite coaching to Dobbs.

Dobbs is the only reason Butch Jones still has a job. Well, Dobbs and a megamillion buyout.

I'm guessing coaches notice things like that.
