Grown men that ask for male athletes' autographs

I've never heard of people asking for an athlete's phone number.

I was being facetious with the phone number comment, but just saying. Asking a guy for his autograph is not much further from asking for his phone number...

This is mainly a reaction post to thise people who claim that wearing jerseys is ghey. If wearing a jersey is ghey, them walking up to a man and asking him to sign you hat, your shirt, etc. is equally if not more ghey.

Real talk...

And any man that actually would BUY an autographed bat/football/jersey is in the same conversation as the autograph seeker/stalker.

Except asking for a signature is nothing like getting a phone number, at all.

When a guy asks someone, say, a girl, for a phone number, it's about a relationship/sex/what have you.

I can 100% guarantee that an athlete doesn't take a request for a signature in the same way. Besides, you can't directly get in touch with someone using their signature.

To each their own.
"My rights begin where yours end..."
Different strokes for different folks.

What does it matter if you have something autographed or not.
I have an autographed Reggie White football. Is that ghey?
Also got an autographed Jimmy Buffet guitar, and a baseball signed by Glavine, Maddox, and Smoltz. I don't sit there and jerk it to any of them folks. Just cool decor, plus.there's probably a nice chunk of money in there as well.

I was going to take his wedge, but that caddie was cagey. The shoe shine guy, not so much...

So what if you ask for the guy's autograph and he leaves you a phone number?

That's a bit weird, but no one I've known who has asked for an autograph has received a phone number.

I really don't worry about autographs. I don't seek them out unless my wife insists on them for the younger members of our family.

Damned if I didn't find myself at the Par 3 course at Augusta back in April. Got autographs from all 3 on my Masters visor. Nicklaus, Palmer, and Player. Great guys -- each one.

I agree with you, however if I had the opportunity to get the greatest basketball player ever Michael Jordan's autograph. There is absolutly no way I would pass that up.

I personally find it odd you feel so strongly about grown men asking for autographs. I don't have any and would never ask for one but they do have value in terms of dollars and collectibility.

If I were an athlete I might refuse to sign autographs. I think Bill Russel did. I'll take pictures with the kids all day, but a signature is so impersonal and they may just want to sell it anyways. If they are really a fan, they'd prefer the picture, I think.

the only ones I've purchased were a couple of mini helmets from a store going out of business (got them for cheap). Of course they're still just laying around since the kid will get what was to become my UT room

To answer your question, no... I would not ask Hank Aaron for his autograph. What would I do with it anyways? Frame it? Show people and say, "Hey, I got Hank Aaron's autograph!"?

I mean, what do I get out of the deal besides bragging rights to people who probably don't care anyways? At least, that is the reaction I give when someone tells me they have so-and-so's autograph. Big deal. You ran up to a celebrity and took a picture or got them to autograph a restaurant receipt or your shirt. Does that make a person "cool"?

doesn't make them cool to other people. But it might be cool for them.

This. I don't get autographs to impress others. If the opportunity arises, I will ask for one. At the NHRA finals in Bristol, I was walking around during the rain delay and John Force was standing outside signing autographs and taking pictures. Do you think I'm going to pass up getting to meet John Force at my first NHRA event? I've got a picture and autograph within reach as I type this. I get autographs because I think they are nice personal collectibles.

I agree. I have never gotten it. What's so cool about someone signing their name on something.

Asking another man for an autograph? What's next, asking him for his seven digits?

Asking for autographs is about the gheyest thing an grown man. I could see if you are a kid... that is kosher. But anyone over the age of 15 that aske for an autograph is borderline stalker or a punk and that annoys me more than a guy that wears a jersey or a necktie/blazer to a game.

I'm just saying...

Why do people care what others do? There's been a thread on what people wear and now a thread on autographs? How does getting an autograph and wearing jerseys to a football game affect your lives? Who gives a **** really
