Her numbers at Baylor are about on par with Tyler Hansbrough's numbers at North Carolina. Both even won one championship. Hansbrough is actually the all-time leading scorer at UNC. We're talking about one of the greatest basketball schools of all time.
Here's the thing... Tyler Hansbrough is a role player off the bench! Britney Griner in the NBA.... ahahahaha! She's 6'8 207lbs, Hansbrough is 6'9 250lbs. Being the biggest girl blocking slower, less athletic and what are essentially midgets in comparison to her would not translate to the NBA. Wouldn't even translate to men's college ball. She couldn't be a post player. Could you imagine her going up against power forwards such as
Black Griffin, David West, Carlos Boozer, Kevin Love, Kevin Garnette, LaMarcus Aldridge etc. They not only have height and athleticism on her but more importantly, about 50lbs. I watched David West lower his shoulder to create space and push guys like Carlos Boozer off him who is built like a tank. He's shove Britney Griner into the stands. That means she has to move down to small forward. Again, they're still bigger than her but much quicker than power forwards and have more range on their shot. Now, we're talking about moving down to shooting guard perhaps? She's not a shooting guard. Not even a small forward. Her game is that of center/power forward. She can't shoot and plays down low.
So ideally, she'd play power forward I suppose in the NBA. Well, there's a GIF of 6'8 250lb Lebron lowering his shoulder into 6'9 265lb Carlos Boozer. Carlos Boozer doesn't even budge and Lebron is far larger than 6'8 207lbs Britney Griner.
So Lebron can't budge a middle of the road power forward and Tyler Hansbrough who was an elite player at UNC comes off the bench but Britney Griner could play in the NBA? Yeah right. She souldn't even play D1 men's ball. She's the same size as Scotty Hopson and JP Prince who were shooting guards at the college level that could fly through the roof. She can't fly through the roof or shoot. What's she going to do, be a post player playing shooting guard?
One of two things would happen to her. If she plays power forward, she'll be boxed out for rebounds and easy dunks will be given up because players will nudge her off them. They'd do it with ease too because they have 50lbs on her. Or, if you want her to play small forward. She'd be slow to get out and defend jumpers leaving an open look. If she does get out there to defend them, she'll just stand with her arms up in the air because she has little ups as they proceed to shoot over her. Or they'll put the ball on the floor and go around her. Keep in mind, small forwards in the NBA go by the names of Lebron James, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Paul Pierce etc.
Mark Cuban said he'd draft her because it would create excitement in d-league. Now does that sound like someone who believes she could play with men or a billionaire business mogul looking to make another buck? The answer is obvious.
