Griese on Worley

The O line has been bad, and certainly got exposed at OK, which was a VERY tough game for Worley. However, in some ways it was a tougher job last year, because we were so much weaker at WR and TE. Last year the protection was good but often no one was open or they wouldn't finish the route in the right way.

Against our two weak opponents, I though Worley's job actually looked a lot easier than last year. Sure the run game was lacking, but the screen passes were good yard gainers, as were a variety of shorter routes. That means Worley can often just make an easy throw and "get the ball in the hands of a playmaker in space."

IMO, any game this year where the O line can measure up to the opposing D line will result in an easier game for Worley than the games he played in last year.

Of course that is not to say that Worley has not improved his play, he most certainly has...

Yes, he has an extremely hard job.

He is the starting QB for a program that is trying to get back to an elite level that many fans (and the program itself) was used to for multiple decades in a row.

He is also trying to be the first QB to win a bowl game in about the last decade.

He has a very young line and most of his top receivers are out and will be out.

His redshirt was burned by an idiot coach so he never had the chance to just sit and watch and knows this is his one season to prove to the NFL he can do it---which is pressure in itself.

He also has a website full of arm-chair warrior fans who will turn on him in the blink of an eye--See Croom thread.

He also has a very young line and is running for his life even when he keeps it.

I also do not believe he has thrown an interception yet other the Croom pass (which should have been caught) which speaks volumes.

Lastly, at the end of the year if he gets us back into a bowl game and wins the actual bowl game his bowl game win will mean more than any bowl Peyton ever won. Because it will have a snowball effect on recruiting and stabilize this program showing the world we have turned the corner. Peyton's wins were nice, but Worley's is a program changer.
Now that's pressure.

Super Bowl FTW

1: I don't like anyone hating on Worely.

2: I respect Brian. I read an article on him forever ago about the time he took a teenaged girl in a wheelchair to prom. He didn't do it for publicity, he did it because he's a great human being.

I think you bolded the wrong thing.

But yes you're right, he has 3 picks on the season. One went through Croom's hands, and the pick 6 was the result of bad play calling. You go 5-wide 2 yards outside of a crowded endzone you have a better chance of the ball being picked than you do actually making the completion.

Yup, should have immediately rolled and threw on the run to any receiver that created some space.

I like Worley Bird and hope he has the breakout season he needs to have, but Peyton Manning was Tennessee's best QB ever and he continues to impact our program.

Go Worley Bird ! :clapping:

Haven't you heard?

About the bird?
