Gregg Marshall and his high salary

Marshall is the one. I too am surprised that his salary is not higher at Wichita State. I believe Marshall's ego will eventually drive him out of a mid-market conference to a place where he can have a bigger platform and more respect. The SEC wants to put more emphasis on basketball? Marshall would be a great hire.

junky old arena - 4k fans on a given night - lower budget - the "friend" said cronin would def be interested in UT was at 1.9 - 2.0 mill range.

not that Tenn will be in that range but if they are he could be a nice candidate.....

I just can't see him taking a pay cut to leave his alma mater and leave the city he's lived in nearly his entire life.

SN: Cincy averages just south of 10k fans a game

Clearly this happens. Winthrop was willing to name their court after him and he left because the contract they wanted him to sign would have tied him down. There is an article I can't find now that talks about schools contacting him every single year he was at Winthrop and Wichita State and he actually lobbied for the UT job and didn't get it. Amazing to think about.

I think Cronin would be an excellent hire. Not sure that he would come to UT for less than he's making at Cincy. You're friend seems pretty sure though.

Problem with Marshall is that UT interviewed him not once but twice and passed on him both times - may not sit well with him but I would find him more than acceptable.

This does pose a bit of a problem. He may not be willing to interview again and possibly be turned down for a third time by the same school. If he is the man, they need to tell him that up front.

Hart would have to smooth over some things with Marshall and warm up to him quite a bit. I still can't believe that UT passed him over twice. Well, 3rd time is a charm hopefully.:)

If Cronin left Cincy, it would kind of be like Buzz Williams leaving Marquette but more surprising, considering Cronin grew up in Cincy. He would only do it if he felt like he might soon be on the hot seat and wanted to buy himself a fresh 5 years.

Gregg Marshall... Shaka Smart... Mike Cronin. I mean I hate to say it, but I think some of you guys might be shooting it a little high. Where is the real incentive for any of those guys to come to UT?

You know that saying people always want what they can't have...well that might apply? Also Hammy boy was the AD then. Dave "the hitman" Hart is our AD now and he doesn't butch around.

Does anyone see Forbes coming back if Marshall comes? Or any chance her goes to Auburn? Or on his own? Would love to have him back with all his JUCO connections and his experience in the SEC.

Just say no to Wojo ! I can't stand that Duke style of play which he most certainly would use

Strong didn't come because of the academic issues that were doing on with Boogie man. I'd much rather have Butch than Strong anyways.

Butch left UC for UT. That has worked out. His recruiting classes are in the top 5 in the nation. Cronin would leave UC for UT. Its a better job plus the SEC network is about to start up.

Basketball is a different animal though...much more tradition and winning...remember Big O went there and won championships...and that attitude has never faltered.

Wonder how that's sitting with Cincy fans?

How would Tennessee fans react if Martin's friend was on the radio shopping him?
