How does he do it? Rutgers has the 7th ranked recruiting class right now!

By convincing a bunch of New Jersey recruits to "stay home". (Also, via quantity which matters more in the early rankings than quality.)

His success in Jersey recruiting doesn't translate to anywhere else. No one would buy "hey, I'm from Jersey, come to Mississippi State!"

Heupel and his staff need time to make sure they are getting exactly the kind of players they need to do what they need to do....sometimes having the number1 ranked class doesn't pan out like it should......#UT football recruiting class of 2005

1. Rutgers doesn't have an exhausting and nauseatingly negative fan base empowered with a bully, troll media pulpit that is propped up to respectability by local media hacks that retweet/regurgitate the vitriol and worst tendencies of its fanatics.

2. Rutgers is a "never has been," "underdog" on-the-rise program in a P5 conference, rather than a punch line program in conference that people love to hate. (And make no mistake, the other conferences hate the SEC because of its historical dominance in athletics that matter, no the least of which is college football. And, they hate the SEC conference's strength, it's stability, it's media deals, and the fact that it does in fact "mean more," to southerners.) This is especially true of the Vols, whose fan base, for better and definitely for worse, are so "passionately" outspoken.

3. These young athletes (and their families) are almost a decade removed from the Penn State horrors. Greg Schiano, who admittedly (but not excusably) was removed from the direct events is now the guy who is seen as being victimized by those horrors several years later (thanks, again, social media). And, most people today are so desensitized or indifferent to the abuse (thank you ALL media, TV, radio, and internet) that it is easy to justify and explain away for the sake of a scholarship and possible NFL millions.

4. Schiano was a successful coach of multiple P5, championship winning programs. He is not some unproven, lower tier diamond in the rough. He is proving that he can win, and WINNING is all that matters.

What the hell is this?

Are you including Greg Schiano's time spent working as an assistant coach at the college level? You must be, because otherwise your post is complete bull $hit. If you are including time as an assistant, then Jeremy Pruitt was great too.

However, the only collegiate head coaching job that Greg Schiano has held was with Rutgers. Schiano was 68-67 overall in his first stint there from 2001-2011, but they were 28-48 in the Big East. Rutgers went just 3-6 last season, but you say that, "He is proving that he can win." There isn't a nice way to say this...

You don't know what the f*** you are talking about.

so, why did Ohio State not hire him as their HC when the opening came up?

Or how about when Penn State's head coaching job came open in January of 2014? Has anyone ever seen Greg Schiano's name even associated with a power 5 head coaching search outside of Tennessee in 2017?

This thread is a troll trip.

Oh boy. Another Schiano thread and another absolute waste of time. Here’s a clue. No Vol fan that I know has had a second thought about running him out of town before he even got here. I certainly haven’t. He was a bad fit and that doesn’t change just because Fulmer made a mistake on Pruitt.

Typical UT football fan responses. May as well just say this:

"We ran him off, therefore he can't coach regardless of any subsequent success he has anywhere and in any context."

or...

"It must be a fluke since he doesn't coach in Knoxville."

or...

"They are only doing better than us because of COVID."

Have we fallen so low as a guy repugnant to most of the fan base we didn't hire for football HC who won 3 football games last season coaching elsewhere who has a top ten recruiting class we know will not stand as we get closer to NSD gets thrown in our face as some type of conquering Caesar?

He's a .500 career head coach at best. Had he came to UT he was place holder for the next guy who would have been hired 2 or 3 years later.
