Greg King moved to TE.

what a shock. People have no idea if he is the best option or not, but they are unhappy with the switch.

Dooley said he's evaluating him there for a few days. I assume he wants to see if he can help us win or not before making it permanent.

Why not move fugate to TE instead of king? He can block and catch. That's half the battle won already vs. a kid that's played defense.

I feel like we are at a coaches convention right now. Obviously our experienced staff knows what they are doing. Give it a rest and support Greg in his new role.

Way to be a VfL and put the team first, Greg! Go Vols!

Because Fugate is in the 2deep at LB and will play a lot this fall. G. King wasn't in the 2deep at LB and wouldn't play much if at all. Might as well give him a shot at a position of need. He played some TE in HS and from his after practice video he sounds excited about the change. He just wants to help the team. He might not catch many passes this fall but I bet he could be a big help blocking.

Can somebody list the 2nd team linebackers?

I think the second team is the following:
JLB- Jordan Williams
MLB- Fugate
WLB- Bohanon
SLB- ??Lewis

Not a lot of experience in the second team, but we have a lot of potential, especially with Williams and Lewis. If King doesn't pan out at TE, or still gets some time at LB, then the depth isn't too bad.

Smith, Maggitt, Lathers and Johnson = starters
Williams, Bohannon, Fugate, Harris/Propst = 2nd string

How in the hell did Fugate get in the 2-deep at ILB so quickly? Does he have THAT much potential or are we that depleted at the position behind our starters??

instead of using linebackers as tight ends,
why don't we just let marcus jackson or james stone be a 6th lineman and line up in that tight end spot or just go 4 wide (hunter, da'rick, cp, and zach rogers) and just air it?

If we go four wide, ZR doesn't need to be one of the four. We already know what he brings to the table- nothing. Let a freshman have a chance. Can't be any worse.

We're thin at ILB, no question. But apparently Fugate has really come on and played really well. He's tough, instinctive, reliable, and has good size for the position. There are other guys behind him with more experience, he's played better than them.

It's going to be a long year for the defense if Probst and Fugate are getting lots of snaps at MLB...I would bet you see Maggit move inside if Lathers can't hold up this season. jmo

After practice yesterday Dooley says I'm glad we moved Fugate to defense. He will play a lot for us this year.

I bet Fugate would be nasty with the ball in his hands after an int. 3 stacks!

I think they can get the kid ready to block on passing and maybe even running plays and work on some slip screen stuff with him. If he proves capable of blocking he could give Rivera a breather so he is less likely to get re-injured blocking and can focus on catching the ball.
