Greg Emerson to the transfer portal

So Phil Steele was on Finebaum a couple of days ago and said we lead the nation with 25 transfers. Guess this makes 26. We've lost an entire recruiting class. 2 thoughts come to mind.

While we have a manageable schedule, we can't roll out our helmets and beat teams like Pitt and South Carolina like some people seem to think. If we get to a bowl game our coaches have done an outstanding job.

The NCAA has to put some system in place on these transfers. Two 4 week periods (one at end of season and one after spring practice) is PLENTY of time to decide if you want to stay and what opportunities are out there for you. I'm all for someone moving on if they want to, but this wild west transfer system is ridiculous.

A question I have and I've probably just missed it. Do incoming transfers count against our 25 per year? If 26 are going out, that seems ridiculous.

So he wanted to play basketball too. What would have happened if he didn't crack the starting lineup of either team? Yep, the ole transfer portal. Bye.

Hope this will help him fulfill his potential and one day play in the NFL. You never know what will cause the light bulb to come on. I hope this move does it for him. Alvin Kamara needed to leave Bama to find himself, I hope this kid does the same.
we have had a ton of players that have left , i say theses players are getting contacted illegally dont know for sure, thats just how i feel

Please stop !! Enough ..when are you all gonna realize that of the 26 .. 20 would not play here or play alot .. give me a break .. Henry T , K lawrence , Gray , Morris are the only 4 I would have back anyway ... alot of these guys were walkons .. not a whole recruiting class ... so quit making it such a big deal .. im glad they are gone .. 85 percent of them would have never helped us period !!!

each program is allowed 25 Initial or "Hard" Counters each year. Incoming Freshman recruits or transfers from other programs make up the Hard Counters.

Regardless of any kind of attrition, each team is only allowed 25 Hard Counters per year.

You are in fantasy land. Our best offensive and defensive players left. Several starters and players who have starting experience. That matters. If you think we can lose that many players and improve I'll have some of what you're having.

With Salter gone, how many of the 2021 signing class are also gone?

You can't lose 26 people and not have it effect the football team. Even granting that the vast majority are not impact players, (1) it makes having legitimate practices difficult, (2) you create no competition for jobs (3) it takes for granted that the people who are left are really good (a lot aren't), and (4) God help you if you experience injuries, particularly at certain positions.

Counting scholly players onoly We have 9 WR , 5 Te's , 6 RB's , 4 QB's , 15 OL's , 11 LB / OLB , 9 DL , 11 DB's not counting the guys coming on on transfer Portal additions and freshman that are just starting ... and not counting any walkons ... so we may be a few under 85 .. stop letting the 26 number be more than it is ..

Which describes every member of the Tennessee football team.

Anyone who's left that is not named Mays could leave and this statement would be appropriate.

I say this to emphasize that (1) the sheer volume of defections is an issue and (2) no matter how many times people try to put lipstick on the pig, the current talent level of the roster is bad.

This is a 1 to 2 year survival project to gain bowl eligibility and hopefully by year 3, they can make a move. People trying to look at what's currently on the team and hoping Heupel can make chicken salad from it are not going to be pleased.
Shut up!

You don't know jack crap.

He wasn't even in the starting lineup and we just got another power 5 starter transfer.at DT who was only a freshman last year.

If I had to guess, he has a meeting with the coaches and they say, “we need you at (fill in the weight).” He says, “bye!”

Our 2 best running backs in Chandler and Gray, WR Johnson, O-linemen in Johnson and Morris, 3 starting LBs in Crouch, To'o To'o and Johnson, DB Lawrence. Not to mention some of the guys I didn't mention could have provided some much needed depth.

So yes, losing all that will not help us. It's common sense.

Rumor is he and RG did not get along, but he had exactly one tackle last season. According to 247 he was a reserve “at best”. But his production slid dramatically over the past two seasons.

Wideman should not count as a portal entry, he is an academic casualty. May not be eligible at any school except JUCO

Using the numbers you've given me, that's 70.

Now, whether you want to admit it or not, a lot of those 70 aren't very good. This is the first thing people convince themselves. That the rest of the 70 are really good. I don't care if it's Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, you name it. 1/3 of any college roster are guys that a coach really doesn't want to put on the field. They either aren't good or they aren't ready. That's any team, anywhere.

So, as an example, you have 9 DL. If only 6 of them should see playing time on a normal team, and those 6 really aren't all that special, that's a terrible spot to be in. And if one or two of those six get injured, you are screwed.

In addition, how physical can practices be when a coach knows if any of those 6 go down, he's got a problem. How much do you hinder the development of offensive lineman if they are blocking scrubs in practice?

There is so much involved beyond what you are looking at, IMO.

I love the "you are over reacting " followed by 10 exclamation points.

Believe what you want to believe, but if you think our depleted roster won't miss guys good enough to transfer to other power 5 programs, well, carry on I guess.

its closer to 80 when you add in frosh and transfer portals guys ... you think Emerson was gonna play any more than the the ones we have ..we got 2 DL in the transfer Portal .. all Im saying is people over react and make a big deal out of the walkons in that 26 .. do other teams list walkons in transfer portal numbers . ?? NO .. some people want to make things worse than they are.. we had a lot of dead weight on that team and still have some . but CJH is ridding some of it and trying his best .. he as put in a bad situation .. get rid of the dead weight and the ones who dont fit and start getting those in .. plus this probation thing hovering ... so what they cant play in bowl game .. send the team to Fla or realx on beach and enjoy them selves ... get ready for next year ...
