A coach gets FIRED for reasons.

Why would we want to hire a FIRED coach?

We need a duel threat coach that can coach and can recruit really well.

We're recruiting against some of the best in the business and when 50 schools are all going for the top players in the country we need every advantage we can get.

We must start hiring coaches that can coach and recruit really well if we ever expect to make up lost ground in the SEC and against other top programs.

We also need a Admin that will be wiling to pay top $$$$ to hire those top recruiters/coaches away from other top programs.

Hell, I'm available as an offensive line coach too, and unlike some I haven't demonstrated an inability to develop four-and five-star recruits into even depth players in the NFL.

Remember the 07 team where every single pass was thrown off a three-step drop because the line couldn't hold a pass block for a five-step?

If you want to win, a coach can make that happen and I believe Adkins can coach with the best of them.

lol

After 23 years of coaching this great sport on the high school level in TN and GA, there's one thing I know; there are two types of coaches. One that has been fired and the other is going to be fired.

There is a difference between getting fired and being part of a staff that isn't retained.

Technically, John Chavis was fired when Fulmer was let go. However, I doubt anyone would point directly to his performance as DC and his getting a pink slip.

All of us want coaches that are great recruiters and great coaches. That doesn't happen often so I would rather have a great coach and ok recruiter for the oline. I think a good mixture of coaches who recruit better than coach and some who coach better than recruit works best. If all of them are so so coaches then you don't have the player development you need.

Not that hard to pass on a guy who has already failed at UT and was Fulmer's recruiting coordinator during his downfall though.

Not seen anything suggesting Adkins is in the running for the job besides here so this thread is just to kill some time really.

Isn't that what this whole forum is for in the off season captain obvious?

And who do you have in mind?? If we hire a young guy, he has no experience and has to learn on the job. Always have to complain about something.

:eek:lol: I'm not complaining. Just saying that sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough at a small school or a mid-major program. Maybe a guy like, I don't know Larry Scott, who wants to be a head coach one day and wants to prove himself. Nick Saban started out at Kent State in 1973 and began his Head Coaching career at Mich State in 1995. Before that, he had stops at Syracuse, West Virginia, and the Cleveland Browns (NFL). See where I'm going with this. There are a lot of good coaches out there at smaller schools, who don't necessarily have previous ties to UT. All I meant.
