greetings from UCLA

Have a Tennessee friend get you some BBQ at Chandlers (the best BBQ in town). Terrible part of town, not an area you want to get lost in. Calhouns' quality is nothing special. Still a nice location and good place to have a beer and socialize.

If they're from L.A., I'm quite sure they've been in neighborhoods that make East Knoxville look like Shangri La.

Yes Bruin Dave you wont be in the land of nuts and fruits, this is the glorious south and to quote the great Hank Williams Jr. " We say grace and we say Maam and if you aint into that , we don't give a Damn".

Be ready for the chills you will get when the Vols run through the T....I have watched it for years and still get chills EVERY time!

Well arrive on campus early. I'm usually 3 bloody marys into it by about 8 am.. not sure how you west coast boys do it haha. Then it's on to some Tennessee Whiskey and heading to the only riverside tailgate in the nation with the Vol Navy. You won't experience anything like it anywhere else my friend, I guarantee that. Eat some BBQ at Calhouns, enjoy some of the finest tradition in college football, and then go watch UT do what we do (and should have done last year).. show ucla that WE are THE MIGHTY VOLS.

..make sure to tell your players that ours are mad as hell and we will show no mercy. GOOD LUCK to ya and hope you enjoy our great state.

Amen, brother!

.

:hi:

i wouldn't mind living down in newport beach if i could afford it. do you live in that area? i used to live in anaheim and santa ana. i still have family in tustin and fullerton.

I live in Newport, grew up in Tustin and went to Tennessee.

Thank you for Barney's Beanery last year. We'll return the favor with the Copper Celler on the strip and Calhoun's on the river. The Celler and any number of bars on the strip are best for pre-game. Recommend Calhoun's post-game.

Comparing Barney's to Calhoun's is akin to equating Catherine Zeta-Jones to Susan Boyle. Calhoun's is garbage.

Barneys is fun, I don't understand why people knock calhouns so much. It may not be out of this world, but good location and the food has always been decent for me.

The food is on par with what you would get at TGIFridays, Ruby Tuesday, or any other chain restaurant. It used to be better, but the quality has dropped off tremendously. It's good to go there, have beer and socialize, but I wouldn't recommend to someone if they are looking for a "taste" of Knoxville.

yep, they're separate now (Toddy's liquor)... the liquor store is about a block away from Toddy's now (going toward campus)...

I am so excited to be flying out there from Arizona to see the UCLA vs. Tennessee game, especially after last year's game that I drove to California to go see. I am taking my best friend with me. We have a house in Tennessee and this will be my first time in Neyland, so to say I've anticipated this very much, is an understatement. However I need help on finding tickets. What doyou guys think would be the best route to take? Any suggestions are very much appreciated.
Thank you

When you hear "the strip"-it is basically from 17th st to 21st st on Cumberland ave-you will be staying on 11th st-basically. Pretty short walk-more college students, lively atmosphere. Tailgating will be going on in a 3 mile radius(primarily in Fort Sanders and the University areas) which is north or south of Cumberland ave. Closer to the stadium is generally season ticket holders who purchase parking/tailgating season passes. Calhoun's is nice because you can see the stadium, it is generally middle/upper class people, on the river and a nice place to go-less rowdy than the strip. Barley's and Downtown Brewery have an online menu-nice selection of beers(Friday night maybe) and live music in the evenings. The truth is you could not have picked a better hotel. Everyone of these places I have mentioned is 3 miles or less from your room. If you are not a Vol fan then skip the Vol walk and party more instead. So many close by bars and seeing you are staying right next to stadium-your hotel is a lot closer than I park for each game-I do not know why you would consider tailgating.Have fun and be safe!!

A group of 6 of us will be flying in for the game Friday afternoon until Monday morning. I ‘ve had some sweet experiences at some of our past away games, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, and Alabama are some of my favorites, but I hear game day at UT is one of the best. I am hoping for a few tips from some real football fans as far as where to go game day, Friday night, post game etc to get the best experience. At the Rosebowl we tailgate, period. I am assuming you guys can tailgate and/or hit the bars/restaurants. Where/When are the best spots, best times? Any and all tips and suggestions are appreciated. Looking forward to 9/12/09, and good luck with your season.

Welcome! Hope you guy's have a good one!:hi:

a ride from the strip to the sheraton shouldn't be more than $5-10, should it? I haven't used a cab in years, so I don't know... we walked through the fort for years with no problems... sounds like it's different now.

Usually the cab services around Knoxville will have a "minimum charge" of $10. You might find a service that charges like big city cabs, but my experience is that a minimum charge applies, PLUS the additional mileage/time.

For example, I live in Farragut and my sister/brother in law took a cab to the West Town Mall area and it cost them $35.

Downtown might be a lot different, but on a football game Saturday I would bet that it's a racket.

There will be PLENTY of scalpers on the strip.

If you are not a Vol fan then skip the Vol walk and party more instead.
I will agree with this. Unless you got out early and have already seen a lot, I would just skip this and make sure you are back in time for the Salute to the Hill.

My brother who lives in Tennessee was saying that there would be plenty of scalpers. However I just want the assurance of having the ticke:salute:ts before the game. I have been looking forward to this for a year now. I cannot wait to see the men in orange. Oh by the way if anyone was confused by my first post, I am a huge Volunteer fan, not a Bruin fan.

I just checked and there are hundreds for sell on eBay right now. Great selection of seats just about anywhere in the stadium. I've had excellent luck in getting tickets through eBay. Of course there will be plenty of scalpers around the stadium, but I understand your wanting tickets IN HAND before flying across the country.

I have a pair of tickets to the UCLA game from my season ticket package that I planned to sell on eBay (something I've done for years); I expected to get a minimum of $200 for the pair (they are at the 40 yd. line, lower level, under the cover of the upper deck so that rain/sun are not a problem) If you're willing to pay $200 for the pair, they're yours. And surprise, surprise----I live in Scottsdale and we could meet somewhere and make the exchange. I'm at sundale@cox.net.
