Greenland

I think people, especially his supporters, feel the need to see some sanity in this. They claim it’s to protect us from Russia and China, or they say things like “it’s a good idea in theory, but he’s gone about it the wrong way.” It fits the narrative of Trump “the disruptor” who “isn’t a typical politician” but is always “putting America first.” If people can see some sanity in the idea, they can see some in him.

When in reality this more like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum because his parents won’t give him what he wants.
This.

MAGA, as seen on this board especially, will do special olympics sized mental gymnastics to try and rationalize Trumps lunacy. Why? They all live vicariously through him. If they find fault with him they find it in themselves and that's a tough if not impossible Bubba pill to swallow for most humans, but especially for Foxnews red hat wearing Trump worshipping but I have a black friend MAGA acolytes

If anyone attacks or invades Greenland, NATO is obligated to defend them. It's protected as of now. The only immediate threat they face is from the US, which is bizzare.

I agree with you in principle, but aren't they proving Trump correct right now. So, if the U.S. takes over Greenland, what is NATO going to do?

Nothing.

The threat of losing Greenland either from the Greenlanders or Europe is actually other European countries.

They can ask the US for money and arms to defend Greenland from the US.

The lack of self-awareness displayed by typing this out after Trump has had the US government take ownership stakes in multiple private companies, is palpable.
Non sequitur.

No... Wait. Apples are round. Bowling balls are round. Therefore you can eat bowling balls.

Yeah. You're right

I disagree with the concept of what he is doing in part, but this part is correct. Trump has setup the excuse, and the Europeans are proving him correct even though that really isn't the full reason why he wants Greenland.
You really couldn't make a point about their inability to defend Greenland any better. Seems like the underlying point is pretty clear: "You want control on our dime."

It's like your middle schooler claiming sovereignty, as they ask you for their allowance and slam the door to their (your) bedroom when they don't get their way.

Can you share some specifics. What you’re saying seems pretty vague. I see nothing about Reagan, and the last thing I can see about a genuine purchase attempt seems to be from 1955.
I’ve seen pretty solid documentation that serious attempts were made by Andrew Johnson and Harry Truman and it was recommend in the early 1900s and again by the Joint Chiefs in the 80s.

The whole thing seems like a typical Trump maneuver where he advocates for big things and then negotiates back from the ledge. I’m not buying that in a world with issues in Israel, Iran, Ukraine, Venezuela etc, the talk before Davos is . . . Greenland lol.

People referring to it as TACO totally mischaracterize his MO.

I think that point is pretty clear, the issue is -- that really isn't what this is ultimately about.

I did too in the back of a comic book and in MAD magazine.
It's weird you are trying to minimize actual historical facts, just because Trump is involved with it now.

I don't agree with how Trump is doing it, but other Presidents and their Administrations have considered purchasing, annexing, or taking Greenland by force

The fact people actually think Russia or China has the military mobility and logistics to go across the globe and take over a country shows how poorly informed and educated our people are.

Spoiler alert: they don't
Got to be more to it than that. Ukraine has been a pretty eye opening thing to watch. Most probably assumed it would be over in a week.

Monroe doctrine with a twist i.e. peace plan around Israel/Gaza by all nations. (I'm not agreeing with it per se)

U.S. -> West
Russia -> Central
China -> East
Gaza/Israel -> All major stakeholders

Russia is laughing at the Europeans now, and China is quiet. The veto is China, its up to them.

New World Order.

(still on topic I believe to the thread)
https://www.reddit.com/r/UkraineRus...v_europe_cant_match_russias_defense_spending/

Europe can't match Russia's defense spending, because of the structure of their economy’ it is ‘much higher than we can do in Europe— NATO chief Rutte.

I know Rutte, I've been telling the Ukraine thread for 3+ years, they still don't want to believe it.

So, what you are saying is everyone was lying? Don't tell Beard, he still thinks the Ukraine is winning.
