Great film study

WOW! Makes you wonder if these guys simply don't get into the playbook enough or the effort isn't there or is the coaching simply not good enough. At least 4 or 5 of those "plays" were simply dumb mistakes that should not happen at the D1 level. We kept digging a hole against a very talented defense. ONCE AGAIN in '24... there were plays to be made and we couldn't make 'em. Awful.

How long since you played D1 ball?

It looks very easy in the film room, doesn't it?

If you can only get a base hit one out of three at-bats, you're a Hall of Famer. It's that easy.

I like dude but he needs to get that candy out of his mouth.
Also at 10:00 was that really a busted assignment or was it the dead side of the field we've seen in the past

One of them busted the assignment. If Nico had looked left first instead both WRs were open. Just another example of a missed opportunity by the offense. Only the coaching staff knows for sure who to blame. Then again if the O-line had given Nico enough time to go back left he still could have completed the pass.

What I took away from this is that Ohio st has dudes. Several of those plays were cleaned up by one defender, and our 5 olinemen couldn't block there 4 d lineman

I'm more or less talking about Matthews just jogging and the right side appears to be the better match up in that instance.

I guess what I'm wondering is if the right side was actually the dead side, but Nico saw the match up at the line and decided to go that way but since the right side was dead MM didn't put effort into it

Bigger question, but why does Heupel run dead side plays? If it’s to rest WRs, I guess I get it, or at least I get it enough not to second guess the guru.

But it sure seems like his passing game relies on busted assignments and split-second hitters. More live routes means more opportunities—that’s just math. And the style of offense really invites rotating coverages with edge pressure, which creates a lot of space for wide players to run to grass without having to sprint 40 yards: slants against outside leverage, corner/fade routes against inside leverage, 3-5 yard hitches against cover-3 bail.

I’ll admit to being old school, but I also think “hey kid just jog this rep” is just not a great habit.

Again, Heupel gets paid millions to set records with this stuff and I’m just a guy on the internet, but I worry that the pace stuff can become the goal instead of a means to the goal.

That's kind of what I'm thinking about a dead side. It can cause bad habits even when you have the better match up like in the video.
Not saying that's what happened but seeing how MM just jogged it makes me wonder if he had it in his mind that he was out of the play when he could've been the better match up but like you said, we don't get paid the big bucks
