I really thought Butch pushed all the right buttons Saturday. I thought not only was the fourth down calls ballsy but we were in exactly the right call to really exploit their defense. I think we could also see that some of the younger players are really coming along also.

Devastating loss against the number #6 team in the country but damn encouraging to see the kids so "rabid" emotionally.

I think this will be a huge boost for the South Carolina game. USCjr isn't doing well against the fluffies of the SEC, we have a decent shot.

Mike Davis will give us problems. They run to the edge and he is a power back with breakaway speed. Not going to be fun..

Their WR's are extremely fast. They will throw the deep ball and we will have be disciplined.

South Carolina plays down the competition . I expect a great game like the Georgia game. I picked this game at the beginning of the year to be our upset. I will be in attendance and ready ... :dance2::rock:

We will have to be ready for a cockfight! Now when is Butch doing his press conference today? Does a bye week change that? Go Vols!

For the most part I agree. I wish Butch would have instructed his players to take a knee on that final goal line possession. Run the clock, make GA use their time out and kick a FG with 30 seconds remaining. I think if he'd done that, we would have won the game.

I'm just proud of the fight and mental toughness our guys showed on Saturday. That is something that is a direct reflection of what this coaching staff brings to the table. There were several times during the game when I had that, "here we go again" feeling. But, we fought back where we would've folded in previous years. Definite "brick" to build upon!

Probably. I liked our chances when we went up by 7 though. If you do run out the clock and get a bad snap or block or some other nonsense on the FG though. Take the sure TD and put it in the defenses hands.

A lot you can guess in hindsight but that could be the wrong call as well. I thought we laid it all out on the line and just came up a little short on a passionate dive for the endzone that ends up with a freak fumble. No one could be faulted IMO for how we played.

Can't start a thread because of my post count, but has anyone else noticed every time we line up read option with RB behind QB, they hand off; every time they are lined up next to each other its a play action pass. Every time. If I can see that from T55 surely they can see it in the coaching booth.

Think the Vols could easily win that game. Jevon Kearse .. err .. I mean, Jadeveon Clowney hasn't played well at all and then it's a matter of load up on Mike Davis. Conner Shaw will still get some good throws in (I think he is pretty underrated .. kid is tough!) but they still work from the running game. Vols win 27-20

In the back of my mind I thought GA may have let us score the TD.

I really think they did. They had ~2 min left and only 1 timeout, CBJ could've grinded them down to no timeouts, ~15-20 seconds left and down by 3-7. Georgia made the right call, since Murray did what heisman contenders do - orchestrated a game tying drive with seconds remaining.

I have to say, they seemed to be coaching scared for most of the first half, but at some point, there was a flip of a switch...and it was like a shark smelling blood in the water.

Not exactly. We could have downed the ball and played for a FG, but that would have been with ~40 seconds left, not 15-20. And scoring a TD with that little time left wasn't an option, unless we were crazy enough to down the ball on third down to run the clock, and then go for the TD on 4th down, which would have been nuts. Taking the TD at the first opportunity was the best call in that situation, even though it didn't work out in the end.

Didn't have to run the clock down and kick a FG to win. If Neal stays in bounds on his long run, clock keeps moving after the ball is spotted. If they wait longer to snap the ball on each play of the last drive, the clock should be well under a minute after scoring the TD. It's a shame the coaches didn't dictate this to be done or the players did not execute it that way, but all of them will learn from it. I am extremely happy with the performance of the team regardless of the loss.

As warreng points out they have the coaches need to watch for telegraphing the plays. This happened with Chaney last season as well. It has been happening all season with Jancek's goal line D. UGA scored going to the weak side of an unbalanced line formation because of it. They saw the issue from previous games where UT did the same thing and allowed TD's to the outside.

I don't think they were scared, I think they were stuck because of Worley's performance in the first half. People just don't get how important it is for Worley to show the coaches they can trust him. They opened up the play book in the 4th quarter when Worley showed he had control of the team and his throws. His entire demeanor changed. He sat in the pocket longer, his techniques were perfect, and he didn't look panicked. He began to trust our WRs, and our WRs stepped up and made huge plays. It's all about trust. Butch and Mike B aren't going to open it up to Worley when he's not making good decisions or rushing his throws. Worley for the first time in 3 years looked like a SEC caliber pocket passer Saturday.

The team also really fed off of the crowd. If the crowd is just as loud, or louder if possible, for the SC game, TN will win.
