Grandpa DeBord is destroying the offense.

With all the firepower on offense, it was truly disgusting watching the App State embarrassment. I know Butch had to be shocked as were the 100,00 plus paying fans. Someone please tell Deboring that it is 2016, not 1985. If VT ends up with a win over UT, and the Vols look like crap again offensively, DeBord needs to hit the road and Butch needs to go with him for making such a bonehead decision to hire DeStupid in the first place.:thud:
Butch's favorite song. I'm all about that Bore.

Look closer......yes there were some missed assignments, but App State was not a bunch of rookies, the LBs played very good. OL was not terrible, just did what they were told and it almost bit them in the........well, you know.

the powerful, preseason vols dropped from 9 to 17 in the top 25.......obviously all of the sports world was NOT impressed with the pitiful showing against apst. Make it real dude, this team is over-rated offensively AND defensively.........they have actually REGRESSED from last year. They will lose to AL, GA, FL, TA&M, possibly to USC, and finish 8-4. Nine and three last year was a fluke. Sure they SHOULD have beaten OK and FL, but lost to coaching mistakes. This year they have more problems than they can correct. Get the coach from HOUSTON. He embarrassed Stoops and company. EMBARRASSED them on national TV. Spend some bucks if you really want to win the SEC.

You obviously wasn't around to see the 1985 team. We had a bad arse group on offense and defense, they were fearless on both sides of the ball. Majors turned Robinson loose and our defense was suffocating. One of the most fun teams too watch EVER! GO BIG ORANGE!!!!

Dead on. That 1985 was outstanding, probably Majors' second best team ever at Tennessee. TRob was outstanding and I still consider him the most talented QB I've ever seen at Tennessee. Hate that it ended that way, he could've left Tennessee and absolute legend. Our offense was quick strike and dynamic in 1985, much, much better than anything Jones has put on the field in his 3+ years here IMO.

Defense was very, very good, always came up with big plays when needed.

I'm sure the poster you responded to just randomly picked 1985, since it was 30 years ago, to try and make his point. But it was the wrong year to pick.

You are deluding yourself if you think Jones was "shocked" by anything DeBord did or does. His thumb is on the O at all times. It is HIS offense and they're running it HIS way.

Also, Jones like most HC's chose the starting QB. Whatever Dobbs real and perceived limitations are.... DeBord has to deal with.

As far as firing anyone goes.... will not and SHOULD not happen during the season unless someone does something really bad.... like a severe NCAA violation or a felony.

Little overly dramatic are we? I do not care if we drop to 25th. I do not care if we play crappy every game but just good enough to win. Winning is all that matters and right now we are 1-0. Bet you LSU would rather have our win than their loss, and 50% of the teams in the country are 0-1. I will take 1-0 and see how this weekend plays out.

I wouldn't say that he's 'destroying' our offense so much as under-utilizing our assets.
If he wants to make Chairman of DeBord, he'll come up with better ways to exploit the talent we have on offense.

Or get hammered and then speak at an alumni/booster function while barely coherent.

Actually, if you look at play development, which took a lot of patience on my part, the OL was actually playing ok, they did not get a lot of push, but when you watch when Dobbs was taking his reads, he didn't catch the open receivers. On the play the PW dropped the pass, Hurd was wide open with a one on one with a Lb.......my bet would of been on Hurd to win that matchup. Dobbs might have been laser locked on PW and missed Hurd, but the line did give him the time to allow for a look at option 2. So, going through the film, Dobbs did miss a few very open WRs, but I won't 2nd guess what he saw on the field. It is real easy to critique a game with slow motion stop at your finger tips, however the OL did ok, the App State LB played real discipline ball, the did not allow themselves to get sucked into the play very often.......give them credit.......they are ballers...........jmo.

Go Vols

pretty close to my view when watching the replay as well. You, my man, are much more eloquent in the responses to incessant OL bashing.

The OL should have played better, but they weren't garbage all night. As a whole, run blocking seemed worse to me than the pass pro (SDS article in another thread sorta supports this). ASU sold out to stop the run and did a decent job of it all night.

The O-Line played really bad. I expect them to play better this week, and I expect some changes in the personnel this week in the interior of the OL. However, the play calling was really bad. It was clear that they thought they could beat App State with a vanilla offense and a really good defense. They did it, but just barely!

Don't agree, but you are entitled to your views. I don't see this as you do, overrated......maybe, but the pieces are still there to make a very good run. I think the rust is knocked off........B@B will either make a lot of people right or a lot wrong.

Go Vols!!

It was ONE game. People need to chill. If our offense looks the same Saturday night as it did last Thursday then we have reason to panic. We had the 2nd ranked Rush attack in the SEC last season and DeBord was OC. People are acting like he's Dave Clawson. We will be okay

CALM DOWN, A$$ HAT! :hi:[/Q

Telling someone to calm down after that pathetic excuse of football played last Thursday shows the level of mediocrity of some fans. By calling him an ass hat I would assume that you are ok with the level of play and think that it was acceptable under a 4th yr? head coach and a 3rd yr starter at qb? That couldnt produce more than 3 points until wellll into the 2nd half? You think this is ok? Raise the bar, buddy.

Did you feel the same way last year after our bowl game??? Maybe there was a reason he didn't cut Dobbs loose last Thirsday. It's 1 game, a disappointing game but only 1 game. If the same happens vs Va Tech then maybe we have issues

First I'd like to point out that, imo, had we played a 1985 offense instead of this more modern incarnation, we would have blown App St out. There wasn't a lot of zone blocking, pulling guards, stunts, and spread philosophies in 1985. Had we run a Power I, Power T, or Pro Form offense from 1985 and just allowed those big lineman to burst straight into their opponents, we probably would have racked up close to 400 yards rushing and beat them by 40.

While I will agree with you about DeBord not calling a good game, though obviously with a different viewpoint as to root cause, I would like to think that we UT fans, Vols for Life, etc, could be just a bit more respectful.

That said, this game and the subsequent UF and UGa games are significant games for me. I've been borderline #FireButchJones since he got here. If he loses all three or even 2 of them, with caveats of course, then I will be done with him. Great recruiter but it may be time to move on. With Dave Hart retiring Jones is coaching for his job this year, a contract year so to speak. His start was less than magnificent.

Some of you on here think you are more important than you really are.

If you are that good of a coach - then send in your resume - I'm sure all these college football teams would love to have you join the staff.

Most days I think this board should be renamed to "anti" volnation.

+1 :hi:

Tennessee will be ready sat night, and the naysayers will be quiet as a church mouse. We had a sub par performance against a team better than advertised. That's not a excuse, it's a fact. We aren't the first team to play bad especially on a opener, and we won't be the first team that bounced back from their performance with a good one the next week and went on to have a great year. GO VOLS!!!!!
