Gran Gone

I know he doesn't really coach RBs or DBs, but does anyone know if some shuffling could be done to bump Mitch Browning from graduate assistant to position coach? He's supposed to be a very good recruiter and has a solid pedigree from his time at Minnesota (I think that's where it was). Just a thought.

I have no worries that Kiffin will get the coaches to keep this program going. Eddie Gran is not the only one that can recruit South Florida. And with Coach Red Bull on the job we'll always be in it with big time recruits.

Only one question why would a SEC coach leave for an ACC team??? I say let him go and don't look back because he is not worth it. Hope he looks back in a couple years and say WTF????

they were interviewing jeff luc about his commitment to FSU.

Q: Tennessee's Eddie Gran was hired by Florida State today. He recruited you for Tennessee, correct? Talk a bit about him from your standpoint.

Luc: Yes he did. Coach Gran was recruiting me for Tennessee. That is another plus. He is a good person. He told me everything I needed to know and didn't hold anything back. He is honest.

sounds to me like Mr.Gran is a backstabber eh!?

Coach Gran will certainly be missed. He got Hardesty running directly to the hole instead of dancing and it has made him a different back this year. At the first of the year I saw Bryce Brown run out of bounds when he was about to get hit and Gran took him out of the game and and told him to stay in bounds and take the hit and get extra yards. I didn't see him run out of bounds again to keep from getting hit. CEG is a very effective running backs coach.
A poster with perspective among all the lost souls, nice.

All ya'll people callin out Gran for leaving for money. Go to work tomorrow, and tell your boss that you would like to cut your salary in half, and take a demontion in title.
They are the same posters who would praise Gran if the situation were reversed. Is Monte worth over 5 times what Gran was making? Against conventional offenses perhaps, against spreads not even close. Is O worth 4 times or more than 4 times what Gran was making? Considering our running game this year compared to the last several years, again the answer is no. CLK made a HUGE mistake letting Gran leave and future results on the field will prove it. BOOK IT !

Sure it's gonna hurt fora little while...I kinda wish that Gran would've stayed. But I don't think that Gran would be the only reason that recruits come to Tennessee! I'd rather not have a kid that had to be "talked" into coming here. Recruits will still see where our team is going and want to be a part of it!
We will hire a good coach and recruiter to replace him and we'll continue to grow and improve. Who knows maybe we'll find that good, young unknown coach who wants to prove himself and who will be here for a long time!
The staff that was put together last year was awesome...but we'd be naive to think that a hastily assembled staff would have all the perfect parts. There has to be change to have growth...do we think that Kiffin will hire someone that is lousy? That can't recruit or coach?
I think we need to realize that we are going after the best...recruits and staff. Gran thought that FSU would be better for him overall...great! We'll miss him but life goes on! It will work out...

I think CMK is worth that much. Granted, the spread gave him trouble, but his the defense has taking a beating with injuries and is lacking depth and some talent. With new recruits and depth he will be able to close down the spread. Look at what he did with FL early in the year with a healthier team as to stopping the spread. They had posted huge numbers before that game (against inferior teams granted) but still huge numbers. He is also a potential HOF coach too in the NFL. He could leave today and command that much anywhere in the NFL.

CEO also has the recruiting coordinator title in his job and assistant head coach. He has been a head coach at the college level and an NFL assistant. This would qualify him to have a substantial raise over Gran. Would you perfer we gave him about $300,000 and let him went to LSU?

Gran has been a college coach only. His resume is pretty good but no where near CEO or CMK. He was making around what he should have here. He is going to likely be a recruiting coordinator at FSU, so that qualifies him a raise. Either way once Tubs gets a job somewhere, he will likely follow him. His stay at FSU could be short lived anyway. I think we will miss him, but he will not have a huge impact. Any RB coach worth their weight should be able to produce a decent run game.

This is an excellent staff. We'll lose good coaches every year, but if Kiffin has proven nothing else to his critics, surely they know he will staff the best coaches available!

You are kidding, right?

If FSU can return to prior glory then with the ACC competition level they'll have a shot at the NC every year. There's enough competition on their schedule to make them legit with Miami and UF... but not so much that they can't make it through unscathed. They have an almost ideal set up.

There was Volunteer football before Gran there will be Volunteer football after Gran. Got it?

No respect for this guy at all. Ditched after 1 year, backstabbing w/ recruits, what an SOB. Hope he, with everyone else totally flops there.

This FSU national attraction is becoming weird. At first it all seemed ludicrous, but why are all these coaches going to risk failure with Jimbo Fisher???

If CEG thinks FSU is a better job and/or fit for him, then congratulations to him. We really should be happy for him and what he did give to us. Just the same as our recruits want to see our players in the NFL, the coaches we go after also need to see that they will be in more demand after being here. If CLK really thought CEG leaving was detrimental to us, he would have tried harder to keep him. With the connections the Kiffins and CEO have in the coaching world, I have faith they know what they are doing by letting him go. The way our recruiting class played out last year tells me they will more than likely keep their list of replacements quiet until the decision is made. If things go the way they did then, we will probably all be here celebrating the loss of these coaches because of the new hires we make, and just possibly, the recruits that follow them here.

This really is just the beginning guys. How long before someone wants Jim Chaney? How about Coach O? Lance Thompson?

I only expect 2 members of the current staff to be here for awhile. The Kiffins.

Monte isn't getting any younger either.

Oh the horrors!!!! I guess we should just go back to the bad old days of a mediocre staff that nobody else wanted but at least we could count on them all being here every year to post two losing seasons out of four years. :banghead2:

Gran leaving is a little bit of an issue but nothing that serious. He was a good recruiter but the reason people are hype about Tennessee is Lane on Offense and Monte and Ed O on Defense. Gran was a great guy and had a lot of connections in Florida but its the opportunity to play for Monte that most of them wanted to come. Jose Jose does not care about Gran and Palardy said the same thing. They all like Gran as a person but coming to UT is about getting to play and education...Not coach Gran...

I will miss him but I dont know if you give all the credit to him for a successful running game this year....I think I give my credit to James Cregg and Jim Chaney before I give it to Gran. The O-Line is the difference between this year and last...

I wish Gran the best of luck in Florida but I think we will be just fine without him and Wilson. IMO I think if we keep Monte, Ed-0, and Lane we should be just fine in recruiting. David Reeves is also coming into his own in recruiting. They will be replaced I am sure with guys who can recruit as well...

I can not understand for the life of me why highschool athletes are so vulnerable to recruiters like Eddie Gran. Commit to the school and head coach not the greedy, fly by night asst. coach. Same can be said for a Trooper Taylor because he is in the same mold. These type coaches manipulate kids into thinking their gonna come play for them during their college career as well as be a mentor to them then guess what...someone offers more money and their gone.

That's not actually true of CEG, he was with Tubberville for 15 years (see 2nd paragraph).

I think it would be more rewarding as a coach if your at a school with a tougher schedule and have success. JMO As far as money I would consider leaving also but would love to know if UT even offered more.

Im sure Lane and UT made an offer. But FSU gave him more money and a promotion.

More Money, Bigger Promotion, Nicer Weather, and those really hot young women that hardly wear any clothes that conveniently pop on tv every 3 minutes.

I hate to see him go,he is a good Coach and Recruiter,it will interesting to see who CLK will bring into replace him

He'll probably get more money but IMO he's leaving because he doesn't want to work the hours and give the commitment that CLK expects.... That could become a common theme unless he backs off a little once they get more established and catch up talent wise.

wow all this hate for a man just "doing whats best for his family" . life is all about money right?

using the logic applied to EB coming back next year = eddie gran would have been a complete idiot to stay at UT.

its really funny how a similar situation gets such opposite reactions.
