Gran Gone

This really is just the beginning guys. How long before someone wants Jim Chaney? How about Coach O? Lance Thompson?

I only expect 2 members of the current staff to be here for awhile. The Kiffins.

Monte isn't getting any younger either.

So? Do you know why there was so much stability on the previous staff? They weren't in high demand.

I get what your saying, I would rather have coaches that everyone wants as apposed to coaches nobody wants.

Just didn't think we would go through this before the year was out.

I didn't either but there are dynamics with those two guys that are different.

I think Gran did a good job but am not so sure that he lined up with the "forsake all else" mentality toward football that CLK has. He's from FL and has worked with Fisher before. Let's face it. He's more of a family guy and even if he put the same amount of time into the job at FSU the reduction in travel time alone will benefit his home life. If Gran were from Atlanta, I doubt he'd be going.

Wilson is from La. While I believe it is a mistake for him career wise, it is understandable why he would want to go home and especially to such a big name program.

honestly what is so great about FSU.... them promoting a coach they already had to Head Coach doesnt make them any better what so ever

Indeed sir.

I agree, they are racking up prospects ( I think 3 his week, including Luc ).

Then they land Gran, of course the rumors about their DC is promising for them as well.

Question?
Did all of Gran's recruits at Auburn follow him to UT? If not, why expect all of his recruits at UT to follow him to FSU. Has he turned into the pied piper.

If the above is true it would be logical to assume that Gran's replacement would expect all of his recruits to switch to UT.

Obviously bitter right now, Gran is one of the best rb coaches around. His special teams coaching won't be missed. Who will recruit Florida now? Wilson is THE REAL DEAL in Louisiana with recruiting. This hurts us recruiting-wise in Florida and Louisiana.

FSU is in a nice location and has all the natural tie ins with Florida HS players. Fisher was brought in from LSU to eventually become HC... that was part of the plan. His nudging Bowden on out the door reminds me of the accusation that Fulmer undercut Majors. I would find it hard to believe that the decision on Bowden was named absent any "input" from Fisher.

This is why you have more than one coach develop a relationship with your recruits and especially commits.

In this case I do believe it would be beneficial to bring in solid replacements quickly.

CEO recruits LA, if David Kelly is hired, as speculated, he will recruit FL

I may be wrong but I think mutiple coaches usually talk to recruits, but only one leads the process

A year ago at this time, CLK was basically recruiting on his own and our class turned out fine. No one knew who Wilson was and the only reason Gran was hired by us is because Tuberville was fired at Auburn. We will be fine without them. CLK will hire two quality replacements who can recruit. Don't expect any hires any time soon either. He has already said he will take his time.

Last year may set up as a disappointment to some.

What I mean by that is this; just cause something happened before doesn't mean it will happen again.

I know we will do good in recruiting, but just cause we got so many great players at the end of last year/after NSD, doesn't mean it will happen again.

It also does not mean it will not happen...Kiffin will hire some coaches as good or better than they were. Our recruiting will be fine. With K and O recruiting, No body`s recruits are safe until they sign. :good!:

I don't recall us getting any recruits previously commited to Auburn when we hired Gran.

Our recruiting ain't shot. CLK put together a pretty fine group in a short time. I'm pretty sure he knows his needs and will find suitable replacements. It'll be hard to find anyone but an ex-VOL who wants a life time tenure. Success is measured by upward moves not lateral. WE WILL be fine.

I am jumping to no conclusions on this since it could in fact hurt, help, or have no effect whatsoever. UT both lost and got recruits after the coaching changes last fall. I expect something similar if the replacements are named relatively soon, ie. by January 5th or so.

That said, CLK kind of blindsided many people last year. You can count on opposing recruiters to have a better strategy this time around.

Saban loses assistants on a regular basis (including former National Recruiter of the Year Lance Thompson to UT), and he still lands top classes every year.

The sky isn't falling. If Gran is the only coach who can recruit south Florida, then UF wouldn't have top 5-10 classes every year.

Yes, because great recruiters who can also coach 3 NFL draftees and change the course of a kids career just grow on trees, don't they?

Don't think you can give all of that credit to Gran. He was their coach, but they had a little something to do with it. They were coveted recruits to begin with.

gran will not go after our commits. our kicker will be here next month as he is an early enrollee I believe.

This is where LK finds out what kind of assistant he hired. Lance Thompson wouldn't recruit anybody for UT that he had recruited while at Alabama. Will Gran have the same ethical standards? I'm guessing not. Beware of anybody who wears their religion on their sleeve.

Except for the fact that he now controls who they have coaching. And obviously he's making damn good choices. Florida State is in the position we were in last year, except they didn't fall nearly as far as we did talent wise. They could win the ACC with what they have right now and someone decent to coach defense.

Reaves I think did the opposite
