Gran and Wilson.. my take

I bet if someone else offered to double your salary to do the same job, you'd leave too. Don't kid yourself.

Um, no, not if I had a contract. Generally, breaking a contract has serious financial repercussions... as it should. Two-year contracts with daunting out clauses should be standard for a new coach in a rebuilding program. Otherwise, you'll see just what you're seeing now-- opportunists with no loyalty jumping ship before they've completed what they were hired to do.

Don't kid yourself-- breaking a contract should be economically painful, not rewarding. Otherwise, why bother?

I don't really mind the prospect of Gran ending up at FSU. It would indirectly help every coach in the SEC with one glaring exception.

This is an excellent point. He could still pull recruits away from the turd, and that would still be helping us... so IF he has to go somewhere, FSU is a great choice for us..

I know Hat mentioned the staffs at Rutgers and USF, how about Carl Franks from USF? He knows the SEC (having worked under Spurrier at UF). Of course, that could also be a detractor. He coached Rhett, Taylor, and Graham at Florida.

As for a ST coach, how about Brian Polian from Notre Dame? He has also coached Running Backs in the past and he could be out of a job soon in South Bend.

At one time CEG said he would love to have a 10 year contract here, but he knows that is not how it is done.

here here !!!! leaving after 1 year disgusts me, and screw them for leaving after 1 year. we reward you by giving you a job, and you repay us by using this GREAT university as a stepping stone to get more $. screw the relationships you built with the recruits, and all the time and emotion u spent in getting your team ready for the future. Theres a higher offer on the table so you better leave all your invested time, and move on. absolute crap. i lost al respect for those 2 clowns. I could see leaving after 2 or 3 years but this is crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wilson left sou. miss after only maybe 3 months as their recruiting cord. for UT so I could see this coming from him. Gran is another story and is it written in stone that both are gone. All of the asst. coaches left teams to come here.....just saying

If I was a coach, I would at least wait 2 years before I left. I mean these guys are just getting started with a team. But go luck to them both they did a great job.

Speculating about assistants to CLK might be fun, but it's pretty pointless. Lane & Monte will always have top-notch people around them who will do the job...if not, it's out the door! No more blind, magic-dust loyalty to assistants who can't do it.

Would be surprised if Graham or Kippy are hired for these spots. Kippy doesn't work hard enough to be a part of this staff. Don't forget about Mitch Browning (GA) could become full staff member. Kiffin will get the best available fit--not just his friend or former Alum. Those days are over. They will be an outstanding recruiter and can coach players up.

That being said wish Coach Gran would stay.

Where did you get this from? He was a former coach here, and they work even harder in the NFL. The season is longer, and it's a year round job. I think CLK learned that with his stint at Oakland, and he talks about outworking other staffs. It wouldn't be new to Kippy at all.

I don't know how well Jay Graham would recruit, but for one thing, him and Kippy would certainly add to number on this staff, of coaches with an NFL pedigree (playing or coaching). THAT would be the biggest draw to UT by far. Having 4-5 coaches (including CLK as the OC/playcaller) on offense alone with NFL experience makes a powerful, powerful statement.
