College athletics stopped being about the student-athlete a long time ago, let's quit pretending otherwise and move on.

Didn't want to start a thread. But does anyone have any creative vol team names for my bracket? Preciate it

Are they including players that leave early for the NBA and players that have personal problems like something that forces them to be removed and/or quit the team or is this solely on grades

I'd like to see this rule put in place but make it 80% instead of 40%. It's not going to happen. The Sec. of education is mistaken. She thinks she's talking about student athletes when she is actually talking about the farm system for the NBA.

Terrible idea. The Sec. of Education has a lot more things to worry about than this.

Also, I mean I understand the student part of student-athlete is important. But for teams like UK & UT, these kids bring in serious dough for their university.

Also, take any 12 kids from any university and see what the % of graduation would be. NOT very high I would say.

Don't know if this been posted or not but it would have involved UT and UK this year.....

Ed secretary: ban NCAA teams with low grad rates - Welcome to Charter.net

Hope the link works...

It would effect any team with blue chip players. Leaving early for the pros is different than flunking out,but trated the same. It they do this Kentucky will never be in the tourney again!! It would make charactor a bigger part of recruiting, the players Tenn has lost over the last couple of years would have killed us!

I can't find a definitive answer from the links I've followed concerning the report. But, I'm guessing that anyone leaving the team for any reason, (kicked off, transferred, went pro, dropped out) is treated the same. And, it looks like if someone transfers in, you don't get credit. That would be a double strike, if true. The team someone transfers from gets a mark against them and the team the player goes to can't get credit.

But, I continue to look for the truth. It's out there somewhere.

Sometimes, it's difficult to track down all the parameters used for reports of any kind. If we learn the guidelines, the report might not mean crap.

Its an awesome idea if you're not a fan of money, good basketball, seeing the top talent in the country, and money. Did I mention money?
