Grading of basketball referees, expect correct calls 91%

ESPN has an article re the review of last years NCAA final and the reviewing committee scored the refs at 88% below the expectations of at least 91%. Independent of the game and the article , the fact that a score existed and that some metrics were used to determine pass/fail (smile) I found interesting. I now wonder what decisions are reviewed as right or wrong. Some examples: Last touch out of bounds ball; calling three seconds in the paint -not called but should have been; moving screens - not called ; traveling right or wrong.


Wondered what the thoughts are from the knowledgable members of our community.

We wasn’t I. The championship so I don’t really care, as long as they get it right when we play.

Ref errors found during LSU title win vs. Iowa

LSU's national championship win over Iowa to end last season's NCAA women's basketball tournament is remembered in part for its controversial officiating, and multiple reviews of the game have concluded that the refereeing did not meet expectations.

Here's the article. No details of the specific calls that fell short. Article says the review was supposed to start after this years tourney but got moved up bc of the controversy of the calls in the FF last year.

I continue to believe the refs try as hard as they can but the game has gotten too hard to effectively ref at a high percentage of accuracy.

Women's College Basketball, has, for various reasons, had difficulty in recruiting and keeping quality officials.

I must say, though, that the crew for last night's game with FAMU was the best that I've seen in a while.

I think they all fail miserably when it comes to travelling; moving both feet without dribbling the ball should be a travel, but players do it almost every time they have the ball. It drives this old school guy nuts.

But, how about incorrect no-calls? What do they do to the percentage?

The most missed call, IMO, is when someone dives on a loose ball, gets it, rolls over…or slides …thats a travel, rarely called.
